TotalBoat TotalGold is a 1 part oil alkyd-based paint that boasts a brilliant metallic finish similar in appearance to gold leaf gilding. An excellent and economical alternative to prohibitively expensive real gold, TotalGold is ideal for boat lettering, painting cove stripes, signage, and decorative detail work.
TotalGold demonstrates superior UV and color stability in extensive testing, making it well suited for both indoor and outdoor applications. Apply by brush, roller, or spray on properly prepared fiberglass, brick, wood, aluminum, steel, and previously painted surfaces.

These demanding test conditions are intended to exceed real world durability requirements. At 3,000 hours of non-stop testing, TotalGold continued to show great color and UV stability with zero tarnishing.
Apply TotalGold over fiberglass, gelcoat, previously painted surfaces, primed steel, and wood. Do not use on aluminum without an etching primer such as TotalBoat Aluminum Boat Etch Wash followed by a 2-Part Epoxy Primer.
TotalGold has a classic golden appearance, perhaps slightly more yellow than similar paints. All paints of this type have metal flakes that impact appearance. Applying two or three coats minimizes the appearance of streaking so common to gold paints.

I am just beginning to use this product, so am not aware of how it holds up over time, therefore the 4 stars. Upon testing the paint, I'm going to use it for stenciling registration number and boat name, it comes out very bright gold, but takes at least two or three coats. Spreads evenly with a brush and brush marks are not visible. This is based on initial tests.

Painted on my cove stripe about a week and a half ago. I used the gold paint to redo my cove stripe, pic attached. Came out very nice. I was very careful to make sure it was stirred thoroughly, and kept a stick in the can to stir with each paintbrush dip. Also, using a high quality brush made a difference. The first day I was able to coat well on the port cove stripe with 2 coats. On the 2nd day I had an ok brush, but was not top quality like I used on the port side the first day, so the stbd side needed 3 coats for good coverage. (I didn't have the solvent to clean the brush after the 1st day, so had to use another one on the 2nd day.) So far so good, looks very sharp. We'll see how it holds up in the weather.

I've been working on a mural for over a month and have been using this paint for decorative details. While I am giving this 5 stars for the quality of the paint in the Qt I've used, I still have not received this second quart and am slightly disappointed as it totally delays the timeline of completion. I was supposed to receive this order by last Friday and the lift I'm using is to be picked up today which means I'm going to have to rent another lift and get another permit from the city to use said lift. While super disappointed I have yet to receive the paint, it is great quality with a wonderful golden luster.

I have read all the reviews by verified users and I'm a little surprised. I bought Total Gold to use as coves on my Chaparral 2330 Bowrider. I applied this with a Binks Spray gun over Total Boat Primer. The paint went on well and dried evenly. I allowed 7 days for the paint to dry completely and took the boat out for a day on the water. These are fresh water lakes and we had a great time until I put the boat on the trailer. The Total Gold was water spotted and had dark stain marks that had to be sanded out. I would have been better off using a single stage polyurethane gold paint. The Jamestown Distributor paint advisor suggested I cover the Total Gold with their Halcyon Varnish and that worked well after extensive sanding to remove the stain marks in the paint. I asked Jamestown Distributor management to look into other gold and silver paints.

This product worked very well for finishing the details in our Masonic Lodge room. As I was going over royal blue paint it required two coats. I freehanded the paint with an artist brush and have been asked to "fix" the places that were spray painted. Once the temperature gets warm enough and the rain stops I will be doing the exterior lettering in gold. Very pleased with the results.
