What is a Thetford portable toilet?
Thetford Porta Pottis are two-piece, fresh-water flush toilets that conveniently travel anywhere a toilet is needed. Porta Pottis are easy-to-carry, self-contained, sanitary, odorless, leak proof, and hold their own fresh water supply for flushing.
Where can Porta Pottis be used?
Portable toilets have a multitude of uses, while they are commonly used for leisure-related activities (RV's, campsites, boats, hunting trips, etc.), they are also ideal for toilet training children, construction sites, emergency situations, and locations where there is a shortage of water and/or power.
How does a Porta Potti work?
Porta Pottis are two-piece systems. The top section includes the seat, cover, bowl, flushing bellows and fresh water tank. The bottom section is an odor and gas-tight detachable waste holding tank. The two sections are held together by a locking latch, enabling the entire unit to be hand-carried as one piece or each section to be carried separately. Porta Pottis carry its own supply of water for flushing, so you don't need to worry about using it where water is scare. Porta Pottis (depending on the model) average between 27-62 flushes between emptyings. When the lower tank is full, simply separate the sections, take the bottom section to any conventional toilet and empty it there.
Should I use a special RV/Marine tissue?
Yes. Rapid breakdown of toilet tissue helps prevent clogs - an issue when dumping an RV holding tank. Thetford's Aqua-Soft (2 ply) and RV/Marine toilet tissue (1-ply) are specially made to break down to fine fibers.
What should I use to clean my Porta Potti?
Thetford recommends using Aqua-Clean, a high-grade, non-abrasive cleaner, and a soft sponge or cloth. DO NOT use a highly-concentrated or high-acid content household cleaner, nor those containing abrasives as they will scratch the surface of your Porta Potti, diminishing its looks, and also could hamper its performance by damaging the valve seal or plastic parts.
Can I use household products to deodorize or clean my RV's sanitation system?
No! Only RV specific holding tank deodorants and cleaners should be used. "Homebrews" (a single or combination of household products) can damage your toilet - even possibly forming a dangerous, explosive mixture - so it should never be used.
