What Albert Einstein did for physics, Quantum has done for yacht coatings--revolutionized the way we think, what we do, and how we do it.
Traditional yacht coatings that are glossy, beautiful, and durable also need to be applied by professionals, are not easy to repair or keep clean, and don't retain their gloss over time, requiring the need for repainting every year. It's a costly, labor-intensive proposition.
The Quantum product line is a full, high solids, ultra high gloss topside system that's easy to use, easy to repair, and easy to clean--no buffing and waxing. Using high solids/high build coating technology originally developed for the aerospace industry and combining it with the benefits of automotive paint technology, the formula for Quantum99 Series Topcoats and QuantumUV Varnish has a revolutionary resin structure that makes it easier to apply, more flexible, and more durable.
Quantum: A better yacht coating
Its truly high solids content--twice the solids as comparable brands--has many benefits:
More solids means less solvent and lower VOC levels.
Twice the solids means twice the coverage area and fewer coats.
Twice the coverage means it costs half as much to apply per square foot.
More solids per square foot means greater protection and durability, and higher gloss and gloss retention.
Quantum coatings last three times longer than traditional yacht coatings. In accelerated xenon arc testing (which simulates the full spectrum of sunlight--ultraviolet, visible, and infrared), Quantum coatings have 92% gloss retention after 10,000 hours. The industry standard is 3,000 hours. Quantum has boats in the water that were painted five years ago and still look as good as the day they were painted.
Because the product is repairable, DIYers can easily remove dust, bugs, and other application defects with wet sanding and buffing--both during application and throughout the coating's service life.
The high gloss finish is easy to maintain by washing with soap and water--no more tedious buffing and waxing.
The two-part system is designed for easy application by DIYers using a brush or roller and a 2 to 1 mix; or for commercial applicators to apply by spray methods using a 1 to 1 mix.
A better yacht coating starts with a cleaner, smoother yacht surface
Quantum Surface Prep Cleaner is the recommended surface cleaner for all Quantum product applications to remove dust, oils, corrosion, and other contaminants. Use lint-free cloths and the two-rag, wipe-on/wipe-off method to apply. Tack rags are not needed, nor are they recommended prior to Quantum product application. Quantum Surface Prep Cleaner is also excellent for cleaning tools and equipment.
Quantum Epoxy Primers
Quantum Epoxy Primers are two-part epoxy-polyamide primers recommended for the Quantum high solids repairable marine finish system because they maximize gloss and adhesion for Quantum99 Series Topcoats.
QuantumHB High Build Epoxy Primer
Composed of Quantum45 Epoxy Surfacing Primer Base and high solids QuantumHB High Build Epoxy Primer Activator. Mix ratio is 1 to 1 for spray, brush, or foam roller application.
High build per coat. Can be applied above or below the waterline.
Fast drying. Easy to sand.
Ideal for filling porosity in aged and porous fiberglass surfaces.
High solids by volume at 61% yields VOC of <420 G/L.
Unique pigment blend allows the application of Quantum99 Topcoat directly to it without compromising gloss levels.
Apply up to 20 wet mils, as needed, every 1 to 3 hours (sand to 2.0-3.0 mils)
Quantum45 Epoxy Surfacing Primer
Composed of Quantum45 Epoxy Surfacing Primer Base and high solids Quantum45 Epoxy Primer Activator. Mix ratio is 1 to 1 for spray, brush, or foam roller application.
Fast drying. Easy to sand.
Dry time between coats is 1 to 3 hours. Apply up to 12 wet mils.
High solids by volume at 51% yields VOC of <420 G/L.
Contains an anti-corrosive pigment to control corrosion.
Has exceptional "hold out" of polyurethane topcoat to maximize gloss levels in Quantum99 Topcoat.
For normal use, apply 4.0-6.0 wet mils [sand to 2.0-3.0 mils (50-75 microns)] (2 coats)
Quantum99 Series Topcoats
Quantum99 Polyurethane Topcoat
Easy to mix and apply by spray, brush, or foam roller.
Proprietary technology improves flow, gloss, and gloss clarity
Longest in-service life and highest gloss retention of comparable marine topcoats.
Easy to repair. Can be polished after application (and during in-service life) to remove dust, bugs, and imperfections.
Superior durability and resistance to weather, chemicals, and abrasion.
Apply 2.0-3.0 mils (2 coats)
Some colors (reds and yellows, for example) may require thicker films to achieve complete hiding.
Quantum99 Topcoat is available in 54 popular marine colors.
Not for use below the waterline.
Quantum99 Clear Coat
Has the same revolutionary resin structure as Quantum99 Topcoat and provides all of the same benefits.
To provide an added layer of gloss and protection, apply 1.0-2.0 mils (1 coat) on top of Quantum99 Topcoat.
Not for use below the waterline.
QuantumUV Clear Urethane Varnish
With QuantumUV, Quantum has succeeded in creating a low VOC, high solids urethane varnish for marine use that's long lasting, flexible, and highly resistant to chemicals and abrasion. Its unique blend of UV stabilizers and light absorbers dissipate the sun's damaging UV rays while its antioxidant component disperses heat, preventing it from causing the varnish film to deteriorate prematurely. Because QuantumUV is self-leveling, little or no sanding is required between coats.
QuantumUV Varnish uses the same activators, reducers, and accelerators as Quantum99 Topcoats making it easier if you need to paint brightwork as well as topside surfaces.
Available in gloss and satin finishes.
Superior weatherability and chemical resistance.
Exceptional durability and flexibility.
High solids, high build formula fills and covers in fewer coats--typically 3 to 4.
Easy to apply by spray, brush, or foam roller.
Mix ratio is 2 to 1 for brush/roller application; 1 to 1 for spray application.
For interior or exterior use above the waterline only.
