Application conditions Temperature should be between 50F. and 85F. during application. Air humidity below 85%.Avoid varnishing in too much wind or sun. A rapid loss of solvents will occur under these conditions and will decrease the flowing ability. Add thinner up to the specified percentage to compensate for the faster release of solvents. Epifanes Wood Finish Gloss is compatible with most other types of one-component alkyd or urethane based varnishes and over two-component varnishes. Any existing finish must be intact, degreased and sanded prior to recoating. Always stir Woodfinish Matte prior to use.

Surface Preparation:
Fill the bare wood to a smooth surface with Epifanes Clear Gloss Varnish, Epifanes Wood Finish Gloss or Epifanes Polyurethane Clear Gloss. Approx. 3 - 4 coats. These sealer coats provide maximum durability and U.V. protection (see leaflet on Clear Gloss Varnish, Wood Finish Gloss or Polyurethane Clear Gloss for application instructions). A build up of gloss also produces a finish with more depth and clarity. After build up, degrease with Epifanes Spray Thinner For Paint & Varnish or denatured alcohol and sand coat with 320 or 400 grit wet or dry abrasive paper. Brush application with a good quality, clean, natural bristle brush will give good results. Try an Epifanes brush for the ultimate varnishing experience. Foam brushes are convenient on smaller projects however, are not suitable for larger jobs. "Roll and tip" is a great method for large flat areas. 3" foam roller followed by a bristle brush is the best combination.

If existing coats of varnish are intact, one or more coats of Epifanes Woodfinish Matte may be applied on a well cleaned, degreased and lightly sanded surface. An existing varnish system in poor condition must be removed. Weathered spots may be treated with a cleaning or bleaching product. If either are used, wash down the surface thoroughly with fresh water in order to remove any residue. Allow the surface to dry. Smaller spots needing repair may be filled with several coats of Woodfinish Gloss or Clear Gloss Varnish. When an equal level has been achieved, sand to a smooth surface and apply one or more coats of Woodfinish Matte on the entire surface.
