I have a 2004 Beneteau First 36.7 engine. Can this control be used as a drop in replacement for the existing control?
Hardware for two 3300/33 Teleflex control cables is included. If you have 3300 cables it should fit.

Is this a suitable replacement for a Shift Control on a J-30 sailboat? Thanks1
It has worked very well on my sailboat to control a Yanmar 2gm20f. It fits on the vertical side of a cockpit seat. Lots of measurements were made to make sure the handle would clear everything, etc. It is holding up to the Florida sun. My boat, a Bolger 35, is a very different from a J30. Mine is a heavy, shallow draft, gaff rigged boat. It is suitable for a J30. I'd recommned you take the template to the boat and check for any unexpected problems.
It should be. I don't know what is a J30 but as long as you need a control that shifts gears and gives throttle it should be adequate. Mine is a 35' Dufour sailboat and I had this mounted. I replaced for a new one because the old metal base plate corroded after about six or seven years
Is there a installation manual for the side mount shifter and the cable connections to motor?
Yes there is a set of instructions and mounting template. However here is something not included in that. When you attach the shift cable you must be very careful to adjust it properly. The transmission lever must fully engage the transmission in both directions. If you were to adjust it just 1/8 inch short in either direction the transmission cone clutch will not fully engage and will be ruined in a very short time. Symptoms would be a slipping clutch and eventual failure requiring engine removal to replace. I hope this helps.
Product was what I expected, worked well.
The control box was just what was advertised and it worked out perfect for my project.
It had the features I was looking for at a reasonable price
Though designed for a sailboat I believe it will work out very well for an inboard launch I'm building.
