Is there a gasket material that come with? If not what should be used?
No gasket,I just used a bead of silicone
There is no gasket material provided. In most cases the vent is decorative and does not require a gasket to seal the vent to the mounting material. The vent should be secured so it does not vibrate against the mounting surface and burnish that surface. If you want some sealing or mounting assistance, I'd recommend using a small amount of clear silicone.
Use a marine sealant like 3m 5200.
There is no gasket material provided with this product. Run a small bead of 100% clear silicone aound the inside lip and into the screw holes before application - this will create a seal that will last a lifetime.
What is the actual size of the vented area?
On the the one I ordered it is 4 3/4x3 1/2.
What are the dimensions of the "opening" (Vent area) if the overall dimensions are 5" x 6"? At what angle are the louvers from the flat surface?
Alan, The front of the louvers are 3.5" wide. They are almost flat on the top as they are only raised (opening) about 1/8". In other words, they have a low profile opening. Hope this helps................Roger H.
The actual vent area is about 4 1/2" by 3 1/2". I'd say the angle is about 20 degrees and raised up 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch above the surface
I would like to know the thickness of this vent? It looks very flimsy. thank you
Curt, I'd like to help you,but I haven't received it yet,and not sure when I'll get it. So I'm not a happy customer!!Bob
The thickness of the Whitecap Stainless Steel Flat Louvered Vent which I received is 0.105 or a steel gauge of 31.
I used one of the 5x9 inch vents on the back door of my Sprinter van to hook up ducting for a portable air conditioner vent - worked out great.- I did put screen between it and the door to keep bugs out. It looks like 22 gauge and its quite stiff - not very flexible at all.I used emory cloth to soften the edges and then painted it white to matgh my van. I did not want to deal with rust. I have another on going on for the battery bank vent - due to be put next month.
Hi Curt,I do not know the thickness i would guess .05 inches ( 3/64) but these are nice and sturdy. I had purchased thin aluminum elsewhere and were junk. These are high quality. I used these as vent covers for a vintage travel trailer.
'Where are the screws?"
Stainless screws would be a nice addition or offered at checkout to buy.
Still waiting for my order to arrive
Can't rate = don't have it
Tire of waiting
Simple to install vent
This polished SS vent is a good looking, easy to mount vent. All you need is a cutout behind it and a few SS mounting screws. Mounts very flat with almost nothing sticking out to catch clothing etc. Not a bad passive vent. The louver design sheds rain pretty well. I mounted a small blower behind it to vent the engine box.
