Is this products going to tarnish . . . or is it what would be considered "Polished" or "Bright" Brass?
So far, I see a little tarnish on those most exposed to the weather. I have not tried to clean yet, but these are NOT anodized!
The brass barrel bolts that I purchased were chrome plated. As far as if they will tarnish, time will only tell. I just installed them this weekend and once they are exposed to water and sun for a few years then will I know if they will tarnish.
Unless coated w a protective finish all copper, bronze & brass will tarnish. Even with a protective finish if the finish is damaged by scratching or wear discoloration will occur at site of same. Polishing & oiling can minimize these effects but many metals are prized for their patena or uniform discoloration.
I've seen better...
If mounted on a perfectly flat surface, it will not mate well. Off by about 3/32nds end to end when fully closed. I guess some hammering might fix it at the potential risk of lost finish. Fine for less critical uses. Not a hefty casting like one might get with Perko or similar. My gut tells me this won't look too sharp after awhile at sea. I could be wrong. Worth the price for my inland use.
