I believe that the Vetus mufflers are made from a glass filled polypropylene. Is this correct?
Jed Guertin
Phillip,I've had Vetus wet exhaust mufflers before and I believe I talked to the Vetus people at the Indianapolis Boat Show and my recollection is that the muffler was formed from glass filled polypropylene. We replaced the original muffler on our Shannon 28 with one and it was still in good shape when we sold the boat 15 years later.A friend is in the process of replacing his old muffler, and I mentioned the Vetus. Would like to know what the material is/was?If you can't help, can you give me someone I can contact at Vetus? Thanks,Jed

I see the muffler has two attachment points, (on one side). Is this muffler to be installed flat or vertical with the attachment (up or down)?
Terry Duncan
No, I don't believe so. The ones that I bought are just baffled flow thru for wet exhaust. They may make others that are for dry exhaust. I hope that helps. Mine reduced db by half.

I have no idea.

My boat currently produces 89 dbl on plane with silencers inserted in the exhaust tips. What level of noise reductions would be expected with this mufler?
Undisclosed
I never checked my db output prior to installing the Vetus mufflers, but they reduced the noise by at least 50%. However, I would have liked them to be quieter.

How much noise reduction ca be expected from a muffler installation?
Undisclosed
In my case the difference was very slight. I think the length (+/- 7') of hose after the Verus waterlock/muffler had already served very well as an additional "muffler".

I installed 2 muffers on a 1971 Century Coronado (true inboard with a Chrysler 440 marine engine). The classic, low rumbling tone of the exhuast was not changed (thank goodness), but the decible level, especially at power, has been noticeably reduced. I'm happy.
