Vetus Bow 35 Electric Bow Thrusters

The Vetus 35 Electric Bow Thruster improves lateral maneuverability of boats with sideways thrust power of 77 pound-force (lbf)/ 35 kgf. Install below the waterline in the bow of the hull for advanced maneuverability in tight spaces. When traditional line handling is not possible, such as a short-handed crew, thrusters provide peace of mind during stressful maneuvering around the dock.

Vetus bow thrusters feature a streamlined bronze tail piece and composite propeller designed for quiet, effective thrust. Models available with or without ignition protected motors in 12V. Ignition protected model includes a sealed casing to enclose the motor from explosive gases and encapsulates areas where open sparks are a possibility.

These units can also be used as stern thrusters. Mount in combination with the appropriately sized stern thruster kit.

The Importance of Ignition Protection on a Bow Thruster

An ignition-protected bow thruster is important if the electric bow thruster will be installed in a compartment containing fuel tanks or in an engine room where gasoline fumes are present. A conventional thruster's motor could ignite the fumes.

Vetus developed the I model thrusters with sealed motor housings that meet the ISO 8846 Marine ignition protection standard. For help in selecting the correct bow thruster for installation on your boat, call and speak to our knowledgeable Jamestown Distributors customer service representatives at 800-423-0030.

NOTE: Vetus Bow Thruster units are also used as stern thrusters. Simply mount the unit in combination with the with the appropriately sized stern thruster kit

Vetus 35 Bow Thruster Features

  • Unique 6-blade propeller design minimizes noise from cavitation.
  • Single propeller creates less disturbance of flow within the tunnel.
  • Flexible coupling between the motor and the tailpiece minimizes vibration.
  • Spiral gears reduce transmission noise.
  • Streamlined tailpiece optimizes flow.
  • Durable, Dupont™ Delrin® propeller reduces weight and eliminates corrosion.
  • Easy to install using complete operating instructions supplied.
  • The ignition protected model (BOW3512EI) meets the ISO 8846 Marine ignition protection standard.

Complete installation of any Vetus Electrical Bow Thruster requires, at minimum, the following items:

  • Bow Thruster unit
  • Tunnel (most commonly used is fiberglass, which must be fiberglassed into the bow below the waterline.)
  • Control Panel (several styles offered)
  • Electric Connection Cables
  • Dedicated Battery power (Since any electric thruster draws 200+ amps, a dedicated battery source is the ideal option)
  • Battery switch and appropriate gauge battery cable
