Vetus Type 330 sea strainers filter seawater before it is fed into the cooling system of marine engines. Synthetic construction eliminates corrosion problems and offers a range of six different hose connections. A transparent cover functions as an easy inspection port to the filter. The large surface area of the filter means it rarely clogs, but when fouled, the filter cleans easily and quickly.

will a vetus 330/32 with the 1 1/4 inch hose size besufficient fot a volvo tamd 40b , 165hp ?help [nova scotia]
I installed this strainer on a 1982 Ski Nautique with 351 W V8. This engine has 255 HP and it works fine.
To best know the volume of water moved through the cooling system, start with identifying the pump's make and model #. Write this information down in your notes with the paperwork on your boats engine and vessel consumables list, then read up on the pump and of course order two service kits. Now, reference the Jamestowndistributors chart on this product page, listing max and recommended products for each GPM need. 1 1/4" flows through an FTR330/32 at a maximum of 87 GPM but recommends that the same product be used for only 38 GPM on a regular basis. Again, your pump specs are a good place to start. If you have a two stage pump, make sure this is calculated into input GPM needs.
I would think the hose size tells it all. The strainer doesn't put much resistance on the water flow if it's clear.
Sorry..we have a much smaller Yanmar motor that it worked perfectly on.
Ralph M.I have twin 350s uses 1.25 hose would it be better to buy the 1.50 strainersx2 and put a reducer connection at the inlet & outlet? Im told that the brass strainer is better & less possibilty of damage? whats your thoughts?
I'd go with the brass strainer. The plastic cap on the Vetus strainer is sometimes hard toget off and has to be lubracated just right.
Brass it is, Thanks Ralph
How do you remove the lid to clean the strainer?
Tony, Find a way of turning the cap ike you were taking off a oil fiter. Be careful to not use a hammer against the heavier pastic part of the cap. And only tighten it as much as you have to, My dad a similar cap on his pool pump strainer and he use vasoline on the inside threads.(check on that , but I think it migh tbe a good idea).
The whole top part screws off. There is a large O-ring at the top that makes the water seal.
Is there a trick to getting the lid open or a tool to use? I hand tightened the lid and now get it to turn back open. I am afraid of trying to hard as to break the lid.
No trick that I know about. Once or twice I have had to put a strap wrench on the outside of the lid to get it started. When you get it off, lubricate both the o-ring and the threads with either a silicone or teflon based lubricant. That will help a lot, but it is still hard to keep from over-thightening the lid.Good luck!
I have two of these on a 2013 Benneteau Oceanis 48. One for the genset and one for the auxiliary. I check them both every month and the lids normally come off with bare hands and a little grunting. Last week, that no longer worked’¢??on either of them. I cracked the lid on the genset one attempting to use a large crescennt wrench and ultimately resorted to a Lisle Big Range Filter Wrench (63500) to get both of them off. It was a little clumsy but it worked. I have since discovered that Vetus makes a "Filter Lid Removal Wrench for Vetus FTR330 Series" looks nice but costs ¥Ë_¥Ë_¥Ë_22.19 plus God knows what shipping from Europe. JD should carry it. BTW, my solution was $12 purchased from a local Heavy Truck Parts Shop. Amazon has it (the strap wrench) for $11 including prime shipping.
Can I buy replacement filter elements (screens) for the models 19 and 25?JRT
I haven't replaced filters yet so I'm not sure about them.
Can you sell me a transparent cover for my Vetus FTR 330 filter? My cover is cracked.
All covers are the same size. Item number VET-FTR3301. This item is not on the website, Please call 800-423-0030 to order the cover.
Right product. Wrong size
I wanted a Vetus strainer with a1/2" intake/exhaust. Instead it came with. 1and 1/4" hose fitting. Since I am cruising I didn't deal with sending it back and trying to get the smaller size. Had to buy $20 worth of adapters and hose clamps to get it down to the right size hose for my application.

Best for viewing for contaminates
Replaced old strainer with this new one. Now can easily see into bowl. mounting flange and inlet/outlet fittings moulded in. Have used other products from Vetus and found them to be high quality.
