Vetus UFO ventilators provide constantly open air flow to small cabin areas, incorporating a baffle system to prevent water intrusion. They are offered in solid stainless (UFO) or with a translucent window (UFO-TRANS) that permits light below decks.

can this ventilator be placed on the side of the cabin, instead on the top of the cabin?
Thank you b
From a venting standpoint sure. From a leaking standpoint, more questionable. There is a gasket which may be enough against rain flowing sideways along the hull/cabin but I wouldn't want to swear it would be. You probably wouldn't get much that would actually drip inside, though you'd very much want to be sure any core you cut through is well sealed.
I would not advise mounting on the side of the cabin. It is designed for horizontal mounting to use gravity to allow air in and keep water out.
If the Vetus 12v electric fan is mounted below the VET-UFOTRANS does any light pass through past the motor, and can I assume the translucent disc is plastic, not glass?
I have never noticed any light coming in through the motor housing, the Stainless Steel Dome and motor housing effectively blocks incoming light.
I did not install the Vetus 12v electric fan under the VET-UFOTRANS so I'm not sure if any light would pass through. I only used the solid VET-UFO. Sorry.
What are the dimensions of this product?
7-7/8" O.D. x 1-3/16" Height Cutout: 2-13/16"
Easy installation,compact great design
We've bought these more than once...
We've installed three of these with the Vetus 12V fans and have been very happy with them. They are effective, attractive, and they are of high grade stainless. They work very well, especially with the 12V fan attached to them.

Low profile and effective
I like my Vetus UFO vents because there is nothing mechanical to fail. They are made to mount flush to the deck or cabin top so that lines and other things won't catch on them. They are passive type vents with no moving parts. They work surprising well. Good looking too.
