I saw a question about whether the same cable is used for both throttle and shift but I never saw an answer. I will be using them on a 1997 Mercury Mariner 50hp (50ELPT 4S).
I have a 97 90 horse Mariner 18.5 tracker and replaced both cables. Theyare the same cable used for both. It was much easier to replace thananticipated..
Yes they are interchangeable
Look on the existing cables. The part number and length is stamped on thecable, usually a couple of feet from one end. You may have to pull thecowling and clean the existing cable. IF you know you are going to replacethe cables, go ahead and pull them out to look at them and check fornumbers, but attach a return cord to pull them back through.
I used the same cable for both applications.
Are the throttle and shift cables the same number for a 1964 mercury outboard 35 HP? These look like they will fit but is the plastic " rack" gear available for the shift end of the cable?
The 600A says except pre 1993 40hp and lower. The 630 type says fits pre 1993 40 hp and less with mercury controls.

I had a cable fail it is a cc17915 Teleflex USA 5356. it is a 15 foot cable for my pontoon boat 18 foot voyager fisher + . It did not have a loop like your diagram should I add 4' and install the loop ? (might be what caused the failure)your diagram is what made me sway towards doing business with you.615-922-0123
The cable needs to have enough room to allow the motor to pivot without putting stress on the cable. If your existing cable is tight, you could add a couple feet, 4' seems like a lot extra but I don't know what your set up is.

What is the difference between the cc17918 and the ccx17918 control cables?
The CCX is the Extreme series cable extreme cables feature a splined-core for easy movement and minimum lost motion. The CC series are the regular original series.
Will these fit the Mercury 500?
Best to call us.
Not sure depends on the year.
WILL THIS FIT A 1994 MERCURY MARINER 40 HP?
I do not know the answer to that question. However since Jamestown is so easy to deal with, you buy the cables and see if they fit great, if not you can return them. The 600A type cable was used for a long time on mercury outboards. As you can see they have a round retainer with a T shaped hole in them. The other side for the controls has a flat stainless steel piece with a hole for the pin that holds the end in the control. At some point Mercury Changed the design of the control cables. I have no idea when. I am not sure if Mariner Outboards use the same system. If you have old cables a good look will should help you confirm if the cables are compatible. If still in doubt, contact Teleflex maybe they could help.
Visual inspection of what is currently on the motor is the best way to determine it. The picture is showing both ends of one cable. The black end is the one that goes to the motor. That is the one you want to check. That is what I did.
I think you might need the older style. Look at the one you have and make sure, because they are different
not surei put it on a force 120 1998
Does this single part number include 2 cables, one shift and one throttle or are they ordered separately?
Cables are ordered separately, pricing is for each.
I would buy item again
I needed a longer throttle cable and this one was just right and fit perfect
Good replacement product
Just what I ordered

Goodbye stiff throttle!
[...] Installed in 30 minutes and my throttle and shift cables are smooth as silk. Put my last set in 18 years ago. This is a good product.
