Comments about Lewmar Pro Series 1000 Windlass:

Before you buy this windlass, do some research on water intrusion on a Pro 1000. Not a good seal at all between the two halves that make up the body of the windlass. Barely 1/8" of an inch of mating surface with what appears to be silicone and no gasket. Water gets into the housing and will short out the motor. After numerous emails with Lewmar they finally sent me a new motor, but voided the warranty on my 4 1/2 year old windlass. I re-assembled it with a gasket I made, and ran a bead of caulking over the joint between the halves. It's not pretty, but hopefully will keep the water out. Very poor design of the mating surfaces. Wouldn't buy another one
