What is the diameter of the hole that the rope passes through on the life ring? Is it possible to remove the rope?
Hole diameter that the rope passes through is 5/8". You would have to cut the rope to remove it.

I would like to have my boats name on this buoy . What would be the best most permanent way to do this ?
I called Cal-June about this and they recommended vinyl paint.
Is it safer to have a soft life ring buoy to throw to a person overboard or should it be hard? Some suggest that if you throw the hard one, it could knock the person out.
The device should be thrown beyond person in the water, thus the hard ring allows greater distance & accuracy. A soft ring may be caught in the wind!
An excellent product --appears strong and durable
Meets equipment requirements on USCG certified vessels when you add SOLACE-spec. reflective tape, and 60 feet of line. We also added small strobes. These rings are HARD and heavy. I like that the rope passes through the structure, so won't come loose if webbing tears like our previous rings.

Would recommend this ring bouy
The hard shell ring buoy is far more durable than the foam rings. I think this product will last a lot longer and won't need replacing as often.
