5200 FC (Fast Cure) is a faster curing version of 3M's popular 5200 marine sealant. With nearly the same tensile strength as original 5200 and significantly faster cure time, Fast Cure is designed for use where permanent bonds are needed quickly.
Easy to apply with a standard caulking gun, this high performance polyurethane adhesive becomes tack free in one hour and fully cures in approximately 24 hours. The seal is extremely strong, retaining its strength above or below the water line. 5200 FC stays flexible and allows for structural movement. It has excellent resistance to weathering.

Will 3 M adhesive 5200 repair a small hole in a polyethylene pond. Pond has a pinch inside and at the point of the pinch is a small hole.
Bill
I'm sure it will that adheres to almost anything
turtlebayworld
There are no adhesives that I know of that will stick well to polyethylene.5200 will stick for awhile, and is it is applied on the inside the waterpressure will tend to hold it in place. If the polyethylene moves at allthe 5200 will more quickly peel off. This is a temporary solution at best.Good luck!

5200 will not give you great bond strength for this purpose, you may want to look into products designed more specifically for your application. If you know the manufacturer of your pond, they may have ideas on what would be best to fix it with.

Can this be applied if both surfaces are underwater?
Sir
No.
JD Tech Team
can the 5200 adhesive be applied if there is water on the objects to be adhered together such as a swim deck rub rail that is partially i9n the water?
Bruce Eason
yes as long as you have a way of securing the piece in place till the adhesive cures
JERRY SCIACCHITANO
I do not know if it can be used when the surfaces are wet.
THOMAS SWEITZER
Can it be applied underwater?
David Ricereto
I haven't read anywhere that you can; that's a fact. My opinion would be 'no': given that is an adhesive sealant, water would interfere with the bond.
HERMAN KIEFUS
I cannot say that it can be applied underwater. I believe it needs ti air cure before being placed under water. Check with manufacturer to be sure.
THOMAS SWEITZER
Can This be applied underwater?
David Ricereto
I did not apply underwater, however I have read a few stories where some did in the case of emergency.
KEVIN RAINEY
I have been told by a friend who works on boats that it can and that he has done so. However I have never tried. Really great stuff.
NEIL JOSEPH
Never have used it underwater, but l cannot think it wouldn't work. The 5200 works so well in all kinds of applications.
DON SALOMON
Can it be applied underwater?

As many times as I have used it to seal seaplane floats I have never tried it underwater. If you decide to try, I would suggest using the fast curing compound. The results would be known a lot sooner and perhaps give an indication of how the 7 day cure would or could work.
EUGENE RACKLE JR
I never used underwater.
PAUL HILLE
I have been told you can, but have never tried personally.

will it glue vinyl to vinyl?
Undisclosed
not really. im afraid it wont hold up
RICHARD PATTERSON
I used it to bond a pvc (poly vinyl chloride) dingy skin and tube. An inflatable raft , in other words. The flexible portion came loose from the fiberglass hard bottom. This adhesive has held for 3 years. It also held the vinyl to the hard transom with some stainless screws added until the adhesive held. The only thing that it MIGHT NOT STICK TO IS POLYETHYLENE. I HAVE NOT FOUND ANY THING FOR THAT. 5200 is very good and worth a try. It was recommended by a professional boating mechanic for my pvc dingy. Very pleased. It does set up fair quicky. So read the instructions and believe them.

can you use this to repair plastic gas tanks?
alan Last Name
it will work but wont last for long
RICHARD PATTERSON
yes , I have repaired diesel filter cannister leaks on a diesel engine while it was hot and running . simply by wiping of the leak area and applying before it started to weep diesel fuel again. obviously a strongly flowing leak would need to be stopped so the 5200 can have a dry surface to adhere to. I wish I could answer the question but that is not an application that I have ever tried. I can tell you that I used it to seal amphibious aircraft floats for over 27 years of professional flying and there is no better sealant on the market, both fast cure and standard cure 5200. There are products out there that are used to seal rubber bladder fuel tanks in aircraft but I would give 5200 a try first. We swear by it.
EUGENE RACKLE JR
I don't think so, I don't think it would stand up to the gasoline.
EDWARD JORDAN
Can this product be used to seal around a line entering my swimming pool, it will be under water all the time? Thanks, Ed
Ed Gemberling
Ed, I am not sure, You would need to investigate whether the 5200 can with stand the chemical of the pool environment. I have used water proof tape before for my pool, it has foam with aluminum covering.
JOHN PATELLA
This product is used to seal the hydrophone thru the hull of my boat. The boat is in the water docked for 3 to 5 months each summer and cruises about 35 miles an hour. If your pool goes faster than 35 Mph, maybe not...
CARL LYONS
It worked great for me. Had to drain inground pool to below the stairs. Then applied the 5200 sealant, let sit for a day and then filled pool back. No more leaks. Over two years now. Great product.Regards,Mike
MICHAEL REYNOLDS
I have only used it to bond fiberglass panels to fiberglass or plastic. I believe it is good for bonding plastic or fiberglass to wood as well. I am not sure about it bonding to metal or cement. You might want to check on that with 3M.
THOMAS SWEITZER
yes 3M 5200 fast cure works below or above the water and will not loose it's adhesion properties or shrink
JERRY SCIACCHITANO
5200 is great for under water use. It's an amazingly strong adhesive so don't use it for anything that you will eventually want to separate
MARC SALAVA
does it work an acrylic ?
Undisclosed
MMM 5200 is not recommended for acrylic. They recommend MMM Marine Sealant Silicone.
Rick White
It works on almost anything, acrylic included.
CHRIS HAMILTON
Used on fiberglass & stainless steel. Bonded extremely well
JAMES DALY
I never tried using it on acrylic. It is supposed to work but I can't verify-

I like 3M 5200 anyway but this little tube is so handy compared to the big cartridge that you use in a caulk gun. My experience with the big tube is that you can't just use a little without wasting the rest of it. This little squeeze tube can replace the lid and get it back open and use a little more again later

I used this product to repair cracks, seams, and small depressions in a concrete fountain pool before repainting with epoxy paint. It spread beautifully and provided more than adequate tooling time with a standard putty knife. The product did not run or sag on vertical walls. It remained slightly tacky for several days and didn't fully cure for an entire week, but that may have been due to using it on concrete, which wasn't listed as one of its uses. I would recommend tooling as smoothly as possible since the product is not easily sanded, even with a power sander. Overall, I was very pleased with this product. Its bonding strength is phenomenal, yet it remains flexible enough to withstand joint movement.
