can this spray unit be used with Acrylic Latex paint? Thanks Bob Perry
Yes you can - but it must be thinned out with a thinner.
too thick unless you thin about 10:1
Yes you can - but it must be thinned out with a thinner.
I have not used the Preval unit with latex but have used them quite extensively with other liquids. It would probably work ok if the paint was thinned up to 20% or so. Experimenting would be required as the tip is not adjustable but it should be possible.
Can this sprayer be used to decorate cakes with liquid cake paints?
if the liquid you are spraying will pass through a paint filter i don't see where it would be a problem.when I have tried to use it with thicker consistency liquids it was not asreliable.just make sure you get a flow rate as close to paint through the filter as possible. hope this helps.
Yes - but only if the liquid is thin
I am planning on painting a burlap lamp shade. Needed a true navy blue spray paint but could not find one dark enough so I purchased a small can of satin latex paint and the preval sprayer. My question is the instructions say to thin the paint but my Valspar paint can says not to thin the paint? Would you thin it anyway?
I bought it but haven't yet used it, yeah I know, it was literally YEARS ago, but I haven't gotten to the prep yet. Sorry
The Preval is a great tool but I've had little success in spraying any brand latex without some thinning. Burlap should take thinned latex, with several coats, Usually, manufacturers don't like thinning because durability suffers but rough burlap soaks it up and cleaning will be a problem in any case.
Thanks, so when it says 3 to 2...does that mean 3 latex and 2 water or the opposite?
can spray on fiber glass ?
If you mean resin mix--no way. If you topcoat, yes,
Yes, paint needs to be thin but would make no difference, wood, metal or fiberglass
Interesting. JD says "Excellent for gel coat and touch up jobs".Hmmmm?
is ti refillable?
The glass bottle is refillable, but the air cartridge is not
what is being sprayed (bottom part) can be refilled, however, pressure sprayer (top part) can not be refilled
Clean it out well with a solvent (pertinent to what your spraying) and spray till clear and it should certainly be reusable. sprayer propellent only last so long though.
The bottle or jar which holds the liquid you wish to spray is refillable. It can be unscrewed from the gun after you have applied the contents to your work and covered tightly with the included screw cap so that the contents can be re-used at a later time for a second coat, as an example, or you can clean the jar and re-fill it with a different colour. or coating. The propellant part--the thing you screw onto the jar when you wish to apply the coating-- is not refillable. When it is exhausted you simply unscrew it from the coating jar and replace it. with a new one. Each propellant comes with a new nozzle.
The glass part is re-fillable (what ever you are spraying) but you need to buy new sprayers when they run out. that part is not re-fillable.
I am thinking about painting my boat trailer. It is a 198719 ft correct craft trailer and is in great shape. There is little rust on the trailer but it is faded and the old paint is dull. If I cleaned it up and painted it with this which paint should I use? Is POR 15 any good? Professional painter wants anywhere form $500 to $800 to us polyurethane. Any ideas?????Garry H. Edwards
Have it sand blasted and primed with a coat of zinc primer then with an epoxy and then the top coat. We just used this process with truck trailers and it worked perfect. Truck trailers endure the same type of elements as a boat trailer.
Can this sprayer be used with MIL-PRF-23377 primer and MIL-PRF-85285 polyurethane to get even coatings?
Hi, I use this spray system for small tuch up work and it works well. Spray is not quite as fine as with a spray gun. You will need to thin the paint down to work with primers.
this little sprayer and saved me 10000 of dollars now on my cars i sell i can do it my self and dont have to pay a body man o fix it or wait just get your paint code off the door or in the trunk or where it might be go to car quest and get the paint mixed get a bucket to practice with first its just like a spray bomb but lots better
Far better than I anticipated
I'm using this sprayer to apply a lacquer finish to a violin that I'm building. So far, I've sprayed two sealer coats. Nice, thin, even coating with no overspray or drips at all. I am impressed with this little system!
Preval Spray Gun
Very easy to use

Paint spraying solution
I recently refinished the fbgls cowl intake scoops on my Bertram. The Preval sprayer was a perfect way to apply the Interlux Perfection epoxy paint. I applied primer and two finished coats. It is important to experiment with the correct ratio of thinner to get the paint to lay down. This sprayer is priced right and I did not bother cleaning it, rather just use a new one each time. I will note that the propellant canister gets extremely cold as it expells the paint and an cause the paint to change it's flowability. Again after practicing this was overcome and the project turned out great. This is the perfect tool for small irregular shapes where setting up an air sprayer is not necessary.I plan on keeping a few new ones in the shop for those unplanned touch up and repair jobs on my boat, tractor, truck, etc.
This is also a great potters tool.
I predominately use this little sprayer to apply ferric chloride solution to my raku pottery. This allows me to highlight and give an irridescence to a clear glaze or it allows me to quickly highlight the horsehair and feather decoration I burn into the hot pottery surface when I remove the work from the kiln. This little sprayer is also great for applying a diluted pigment stain to small areas of texture for a highlighted color on the pottery.

Something I've wanted for a long time
I have yet to use it, but based on the overwhelming volume of stellar reviews, I will no doubt be added to the herd.

Great for gelcoat repairs
I use these all the time for small and medium size gelcoat repairs. The work best when thinned with acetone and the strained through a paint strainer into the glass jar. Much more convenient than large paint guns.

Preval for gel coat
Thinning with MEKP if necessary makes for a nice touch up sprayer for gel coat.
