Rule model 40 Rule-A-Matic Plus Switch is a Mercury free switch that is designed to automatically turn on your bilge pump once water in your boats bilge reaches the switch.
This float switch has a strong, fully integrated, impact resistant cover, which protects against debris and jamming. 14 gauge marine grade wires exit out on the top to keep them out of the water. Dual level anti-clog water slots. Switch has manual testing feature for system trouble shooting and testing. Use with pumps up to 20 amps. Available with or without a built-in fuse holder.

Bilge Pump Switch
I have switch like this and once it starts it won't shut off is it shot or can this be fixed?

does this work better than other switches?
I have this one in my boat. It sticks in position like any other float but not as often. It has to be maintained. No set and forget it with this.
Not sure if it works better than others. I tink Rule is better than Attwood. I just replaced the same model switch that was bad. Heard that debris may get caught inside the housing and cause the switch to remain on. Maybe the Rule switch that looks like a flapper would be more reliable.
Works fine if it doesn't get wet
Used two in my sloop. Both worked for about 1 season, and then both failed. Continuously delivered power to the pumps, and would not shut off -- even if manually held in off position. I cut one of the "waterproof" switch units open, and found it was full of water. You'll do better with a mercury switch thoroughly packed with urethane for waterproofing.
