Wax and Grease Remover
Can I use this in lieu of Awlgrip Awlprep Wax & Grease Remover, if I only need a quart? (boat has Awlcraft 2000 on it).
Usually an epoxy or urethane surface which be sanded is cured enough to be wiped down with Awl-prep surface cleaning solvents, but not de-waxing or degreasing solvents.
I am painting the deck on a 14 x 44' Gibson house boat. What is your estimate on how many gallons and how much of the dewaxer I would need?
It depends on the type of paint you plan to use but a good rule of thumb is that one gallon of paint will cover @400 sq ft with one coat. The dewaxer has the consistency of water so mopping your deck with a bucket of water would give you a good idea of how much dewaxer you'll need. My guess is you'll need 1 or two gallons of dewaxer and lots of rags.
Is Totalboat dewaxer effective for removing amine blush from cured epoxy?
No. Blush is water soluble. Use warm water and a scotch-brite pad.

I decided to try this as an alternative to Interlux 202 because it is less expensive and is reported not to have as strong of a smell. Indeed it doesn't have the strong smell of Interlux 202, is less expensive, and seems to work. It may flash off a little faster than the Interlux 202, but it's hard to tell here in Florida during a heat wave. I was using this on a 35-year-old sailboat deck, so not sure how much "stuff" was there for it to remove, but after using it water sheeted evenly over the area, so there appears there are no contaminants left behind.

Great for a few reasons.
1. Does not evaporate as quickly. Great for warmer climates2. Does not eat through shop towels Acetone3. Cleans and preps well
