TotalBoat Polyester Structural Repair Putty uses a premium resin reinforced with long strand milled glass fibers for strength and impact resistance. In addition to structural bonding, bedding, and tooling applications, it's perfect for filling larger voids and gouges that are too deep for cosmetic fairing compound.
This high-strength polyester putty is engineered for structural bonding, filling, & fairing, not for cosmetic filling and fairing. For cosmetic fairing and repairs requiring a fine finish, use TotalBoat Polyester Fairing Compound over cured Polyester Structural Repair Putty. Allow the Polyester Fairing Compound to cure, then sand to achieve an extremely smooth surface ready for gelcoat or paint.
TotalBoat Polyester Structural Repair Putty will not cure in air, and requires overcoating with an air dry material such as PVA (polyvinyl alcohol), paraffin wax, polyester resin with wax, gelcoat with wax, or TotalBoat Polyester Fairing Compound, in order to effect a proper cure.

TotalBoat Polyester Structural Repair Putty
50°F - 95°F
Catalyze with 1-2% MEKP, based on mass, ambient conditions, and desired working time. More catalyst will shorten working time, but will maintain working time at cooler temperatures.
For a 100g mass, catalyze with 1% MEKP for approximately 15-20 minutes of working time at 70°F (14 drops of MEKP catalyst per ounce of Polyester Structural Repair Putty).
Dependent on temperature, catalyst amount, and mass of putty. For example, cure time will be 20-30 minutes for 100g mass catalyzed with 1% MEKP @ 77°F
Approximately 3-4 months (can be longer, depending on storage conditions). Keep container closed tightly, and store in a cool (below 75°F), well-ventilated place.

Always wear protective gloves, protective clothing, eye protection, and face protection when working with TotalBoat Polyester Structural Repair Putty. Personal protective clothing should include appropriate gloves, safety glasses or goggles, a proper respirator, and a proper apron or similar protective clothing. Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames, and other ignition sources. No smoking. Only use outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. Store in a cool, well-ventilated place (below 75°F). Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood.
Polyester resins have a limited shelf life and will, over time, harden in the container without the addition of catalyst. Shelf life is dependent on a number of factors such as product formulation and storage conditions. As a general rule, the shelf life for uncatalyzed polyester resins should be up to 6 months when stored in dry, cool conditions below 70°F. Warm to above 60°F before use.
Number Of Parts:
Can this product be used to fill a 1-inch hole in transom without further sealing? What is the color of the cured product? Will the product separate from substrate if there is minimal expansion/contraction? Thanks.
If you use the Structural repair putty you will need to seal it with something like gelcoat with wax over the top, the putty doesn't contain wax so it won't fully harden. The color is an off white. If the substrate expands and contracts it could separate.
How does this product work on the over head? How think can one apply that will not sag?
Your best bet to avoid sagging is to apply in a warm dry environment that encourages rapid curing. Applying the putty in thin layers will also help prevent sagging.
I'm using this to fill a large gash in the bow lip of my boat before fiberglassing (providing a solid base). Can this be applied to shape then sanded?
Yes once hard it can be shaped and sanded.

Was very easy to work and finished very well
Product works extremely well for a casual diy. I am undergoing a stringer and transom replacement. This product takes a lot of guess work and time out of mixing a thickened product. The consistency is prefect for fillets, bedding stringers, filling small holes etc.
I will reorder again
Cored out foam from a large/long wheelhouse window along the starboard side opening and needed to reinforce and seal it. Worked perfectly and I was able to completely fill the cored cavities overhead as well as the curved and flat surfaces without any issues. I mixed small batches of 6 oz at a time to insure proper mixing. Note: counting drops can be an issue so a standard medicine dropper conversion is...20 drops= 1 ml

Stuff works, not sure I got the right catalyst...
Product is easy to use once it's mixed with the catalyst. Not sure if it was a mistake or the norm but I received a small bottle of liquid MEKP catalyst, like you get with liquid products like resins, to use with this product, which is a paste. Not impossible to mix but dang hard to measure out a small amount of each. Would rather use a paste catalyst like you get with other fairing products.
i WOULD RECOMMEND RECEIVER BE CAREFUL AND WEAR GLOVES
I have not used the product yet. However when I unpacked the item the catalyst plastic container was covered in caustic powder that burner my hands. NOT GOOD!
I love this stuff!
This product works incredibly well. The only challenge is assuring mix ratios when using large volumes all at the same time.

I would buy this again.
I used this for my fiberglass putty. Was much easier to mix and in the long run it saved me time and money. The first time I ordered the quart the second time I just want with the gallon. I would rather have more then not enough of this stuff.
This is certainly a TOP quality product.
This product is easy to mix and use. Mixing and application is a breeze and sets up to be rock solid (literally speaking). It appears to possess superior adhesion properties. It's work time (pot life) when mixed according to instruction is right about 15-20 minutes which affords adequate time to apply it as needed. My application was to repair the transition between the transom and the hull as well as to repair the transom itself on my restoration project on my Combo Cruiser. I am very happy. The ultimate test is longevity and so the clock is started. Initial impression suggest that this product will prove to be a great buy.

This did not work for the job I needed it for. It was too thin and set up too quickly. I should have done better research. I did reorder another product from JD and it worked great
