can you use this between wood and fiberglass as an adhesive?
It is a great sealer for windshields and can be used as a hardware bedding. It sticks to glass and gel coat. I don't know how much stress will be onyour fiberglass and wood but in low stress situation it should be fine..
It may work with decent performance (if you already have the product), but there are other adhesives that we would recommend for your application. Please do not hesitate to reach out to one of our techs at (800) 497-0010 to help you out.

Can 295-UV be used to bond polycarb to varnished wood window frames? (I read about bare wood and painted surfaces, but no info on varnished substrate)Thanks
I wouldn't bond any sealant long term to varnish, since the varnish will eventually break down and break the seal.
This may depend on the varnish. You may want to reach out to Sika directly with your specific type of varnish, so they can verify.

Can I use the Sika 295 UV for frameless bonding? I have 1/2" thick poly-carbonate windows 11" x 26" and I want to install them without having to screw them down. I've got an inset epoxy flange so the windows will be flush after mounting. I want the right sealer adhesive to install the windows with no screws or frames. Thanks, Chris
You can use Sik 295 UV and may need a primer/cleaner to ensure a good bond.

is this what I need to seal polycarbonate to untreated wood? This is a greenhouse.
Yes, that should work well.
I need to run a bead of something along the underside of my Teak rail to keep water outta the boat. NOT to bond the rail to the boat, its already been there 34 years.Several years ago I used 5200 but it didn't hold up well in the Sun. My boat is in S Fla.I'm scraping that old stuff off with the back side of a chisel.Sikaflex was recommend by someone here in St.Pete. What is all ya'll opinion? Which one to use?
My friends & I agree that 5200 is an Alien life form that can move through space & time. Thanks.
Ordinarily I would recommend sikaflex but the last two times I used sikaflex it did not stand up to the sun. It cracked and did not seem to go off. It was sticky and gummy under the skin which cracked.
295UV has held up well for me. It has held the plexiglas in my hatch for five + years with no visible deterioration.
I also was a 5200 user and with that being said, I bought a case of sikaflex to seal the plexiglas windows in our 50 year old Countess44 and I must say the job was messy, but came out far better than we expected. No leaks and fairly easy to clean up. I can't walk down the dock with 5200 in a sealed tube without having it over 90% of my body and hair. Pay the money for the Sikaflex and get her done!Craig Harnden
Use sikaflex 295uv you will not be disappointed. It's held a windshield of my airplane on at 200 knots.
I have installed 3 windows with Sikaflex. No leaks. No problems. It's the UV I'm wondering about.
what sikaflex to use when sealing wooden boat decks ?
One of the best products on the market.
What varnish has anybody used to apply over the top of this?
No experience with varnishing over Sikaflex, but I can't imagine you would have a bet long lasting result due to the elasticity of Sikaflex and the lack of same with varnish
I didn't use any varnish so unable to help.

I applied Interlux Urethane (Brightside) over the top of it. It took forever to dry. After six months, it seeems like the paint still isn't dry.
Will this caulk work to bond on rubber? My acrylic window is surrounded by rubber and I need a caulk that will adhere to both acrylic and rubber. Thanks.
It worked great for my application I applied it to a rubber spoiler on my car. It adhered perfectly and I was able to sand and form it as well.
I don't if it will bond to rubber. I assume it will. I used it to bond Lexan into my aluminum hatch
I am completing te construction of a 70' steel schooner. I have 12 hatches. each with steel frameworks and polycarbonate plate panes. Once the steel is sandblasted I want the correct primer and adhesive. It appears that SIKA 209 is the correct primer and SIKA 209 UV is the appropiate adhesive.Am I correct? Thanks
Not sure i applied to aluminum and polycarbonate and it worked fine.
I used 295 UV with great results. You will need to have a gap between the steel and the polycarbonate to allow for the difference in the coefficient of thermal expansion. If you bond the two materials directly together, the SIKA can't flex and a crack occurs with the ensuing leak.My application was between fiberglass and polycarbonate so the difference was greater than yours.I called SIKA's support number and talked to one of their application engineers. They couldn't have been more helpful.
is this gasoline proof?
After curing yes it is.
It has a temporary resistance. Google "sikaflex 295 and gasoline", look for westermarine dotcom for more information. This site will not allow links!
My goto for hatch lens replacements
Never had a problem, it certainly out lasts the actual lens.
Sikaflex Caulk - Top shelf stuff!
First I would say that I struggled with the cost of this stuff. You can buy exterior caulk that is UV resistant at the local box store for about 1/3 the price. I actually did get some and did some testing in order to compare before I ordered more since I didn't order enough to start with. I used this caulk as a deck seam compound. My deck is made of western red cedar, not teak but has the same sort of look. The Sika is a superior product to anything else that I tried. I tested some DAP and 3 M. Both the DAP and 3 M cured faster but seemed to shrink down in the seams whereby in comparison, the Sikaflex took a bit longer to cure, gave off more of an odor but then maintained it's fullness in the seam.
This is the best caulkimng for setting exterior windows with
Thanks for the free shipping on the last order. Another comimng soon
I will use Sikaflex 295 again for sure.
Product was great but Jamestown Distributors failed to send me the screw on dispensing tubes (as pictured) the last couple of times I ordered this product from them. This is a problem because no one around me sells just the screw on tubes for this or similar products.
Sikaflev 295 FAILURE!
The UV designation is a joke. They recommend that a UV tape is used to shield the uv rays from destroying the primer bond to the glazing. Also after only 2 years the windows started popping put after a trip to Bermuda and the other vessel cruising offshore East coast to the Keys. The Sikaflex system was used on a Dean and an Outremer catamaran. Both boats had catastrophic failure of the seal.
Florida and RI
Expensive, messy. Watch vises on utube first. Use thin gloves, lots of thinner and plenty of tape to pull off excess
I used the product to repair some swimming pool slate that kept falling off. The product was used to seal the top of the slate to the wall of the pool.

Mask off area well
This stuff is thick. I used a cheap caulking gun and my hands really got a workout squuezing the stuff out. Get a good caulking gun!

Works extremely well!!
I agree with the others as to the messiness of the product...especially if you aren't careful with it, or fail to tape and mask your work areas. Other than that...It does the job extremely well, and it was easy to use. I have re-bedded the windows on our trawler and they turned out great. I like the fact that after 6 months in the Florida sun much of it summer and full exposure to the sun...there has been zero fade, bleeding of color, peeling, or separation. I am very pleased with this product and the way it turned out!!

Replace fixed windows on Catalina 30
Watch the video and look carefully at the plastic tip before cutting so you understand the upside down V. Try on a test board first. Its not difficult but merits some practice. The actual installation went smoothly. Ended up with clean lines and water tight seal. I used four screws in corners rather than the ten I'd taken out on my Catalina.
