Teleflex 4.2 No Feedback Single Cable Steering Systems
Teleflex 4.2 No Feedback Steering Systems are the most revolutionary advancements in mechanical boat steering since the Teleflex helical cable. Built with the same emphasis on safety, durability, and performance as the Safe-T, Big-T, and Rack Steering Systems, the newly designed No-Feedback units help effectively eliminate torque feedback at the helm making for the easiest and safest mechanical steering on the market today.
The precision die-cast zinc helm incorporates the new SSC62XX helical cable assembly for quick and easy installation. Dual cable helms are also available for boats that exceed 50 mph or experience steering instability from engine flutter.

I am replacing the cable steering system on an 11' 199 Boston Whaler. I've been told that I need an 11 foot cable, is that correct? Additionally, can I use my existing steering wheel or do I need to replace it?
I used my existing steering wheel. As for the length, that depends on the distance from your steering wheel gear box to the engine. There is a very specific way to gain the total measurement and it is outlined on this website and the Teleflex site.I can say that it is an easy job and I am no mechanic.
When I did mine, I determined the length from the numbers on the original cable. The same length in the new cable was a tad shorter (6" longer would have been better). I had to change the helm to be compatible with the new cable ends. My original Teleflex cable was threaded, the new is retained by bolts. Used my original steering wheel after I destroyed the original helm on order to remove it. I operate my 1999, 18' center console Wellcraft in saltwater and parts tend to corrode together after 20yrs. Length formulas and videos are available from this web site.
You should be able to use your existing steering wheel. Go to their website to understand how to order the correct length if it is not legible on your existing cable
Matt, when I replaced my cable I looked at the numbers printed on it first. Mine had the cable length as part of the model number still visible and it was the original from 2005. A quick Google search of the model number yielded the correct replacement cable length. If you can't read this on yours, I suggest removing it and measuring it to be sure. When you pull it, make sure to use a good follower pull cord/rope so you can pull the new cable back to the helm. I was able to use my existing steering wheel which is a standard 3/4" tapered center mounting shaft with a small "key" to hold it in place (locks it to the shaft for turning left/right). The new shaft was the same size/shape as my old so it was a perfect fit. Total install time including removal of the old cable was about 1 hour. It's an easy project. Good luck. JB
HelloMy existing cable says ssc6215 I am considering replacing it with a no feedback kit. Does anyone know if they are interchangable and which kit I should buy?Thank you in advance for your help
We replace the entire system, helm and all.Anything short of that is a mistake. It works great. I owned a Marina and this is all we used. Now that I am retired, and my friends ask me for help, this is again all I use.Make sure you order the correct helm. I have seen people order racks and find out they don't have the room under the dash.Just put one in a antique outboard for a friend in our club, steers like a dream.Building a custom mahogany runabout, putting hydraulic steering in that. Can't wait to see how that steers.
HI, I called the company directly to find out the information as to which product was suitable
does this have a 3/4 tapered shaft???????????
Yes it does. It also has the key-way slot (about 1"). It was an exact match for my original 2005 Teleflex unit installed on a 2005 Angler 204 which has a very plain steering wheel. It is not smooth not splined or grooved. Cheers.
Are the cable lengths stamped on existing cable? I need to see what length to order.
Yes the last two numbers should be the length on the cable.
the length was not stamped on my original equipment cable, I measured the existing and bought the same length
On mine unit the pin was not there, is it really needed?

Better than original helm, NFB 4.2 rotary.
1990 Wellcraft Sportfish. Used orig manf # for cable length (13') replacement was shorter than original by about 6". Don't think longer (14') would have fit into center console. Must have a plan to deal with any cuts made in fiberglass to accommodate removal/replacement of engine end if engine removal is impractical. I used Starboard 1/2" to shrink enlarged cable exit down to original size.

Product installation and application was great
Instruction were adequate and installation was fairly easy. Had a little trouble getting the steering wheel off and not sure if there was any instuctions for this item. The steering wheel and mating surface are tapered and secured with a nut that forces the steering wheel on the steering rod.

JD shipped fast and steering works great
The videos Jamestown Distributors put on Youtube showed us how to remove our broken steering helm and cable. Talks with JD staff helped us decide on the best replacement steering system for our boat.
