Interlux Watertite YAV135 is an excellent fairing compound due to its unique two-phase cure, which gives a long easy-to-sand window. Watertite can be applied to a thickness of 3/4" without sagging and its superior spreadability makes it an ideal glazing compound for filling small nicks and scratches.
What is Gelcoat Blistering?
Osmosis is caused by a chemical reaction between water and unreacted substances remaining in the manufactured hull. Water breaches the exterior gelcoat and reacts with the chemical components creating acidic substances. These substances create pressure behind the gelcoat which causes blisters and eventually cracking. Once the gelcoat is breached in this manner, the underlying laminate is capable of absorbing water like a sponge.
Use the Interlux Interprotect system to treat and help prevent this insidious problem.
Do I need to use an epoxy resin first to seal any exposed fiberglass and can I embed new fiberglass mat with this product?
This product is just a filler, if you need to do structural or fiberglass repairs, use the appropriate epoxy system and cloth for the task. Glass matt is not necessarily the right fiberglass material to use for epoxy as it does not have styrene to break down the binder and wet out as easily.

Can interlux water tight filler go on over interlux perfection, without removing all the paint first?
This may depend on the condition of the Perfection. If there is any concern over this, Interlux is great at answering questions like this.

I have a couple deeper gouges on the top side of my Sea Ray. It is off white/cream colored. Will this product stand out cause of the light blue color? How do you sand it on a top surface w/o damaging rest of surface in the same area?
It will sand out. Tape off around the area before sanding so you don't scratch up the surrounding area.

Cures in stages. Very sandable after Six hours but very hard when fully cured. Using a primer is recommended when painting.
It is sand able, however I recommend sanding within 24 hours. It gets pretty hard after that and much harder to sand.

I have a few small areas below the water line on a 16' Bass Boat that are leaking to a point that the bilge pump will not shut off. Will this product seal these places?
Yes, it will. It is good for below the waterline. You'll probably want to paint over it with a barrier coat like interlux 2000E. You could also just paint epoxy resin over it. It's a great product, and very easy to work with.

Is your transom glass over wood? If there is a lot of movement there, you may need to use some fiberglass cloth and west system epoxy to cover the transition from the hull and the transom.....good luck with it! What is the boat made from? This works great on a fiberglass hull, but it had to be dry and have all of the old bottom paint stripped and sanded leaving a clean hull. Then we used 5 coats of Interprotect 2000 over it to insure a tightly sealed bottom. The boat was covered in blisters and now it looks like a new boat.

If your talking about a glass boat with 1/4 inch or less holes the answer is absolutely if the holes are larger than that you will likely need to use biaxial fiberglass glass and a polyester laminating resin ( with hardner but no wax). Boat works today has several videos on u- tube that are very good and it's really a pretty simple fix. Remember you will need to use a wax inclusive gelcoat to finish the project as fiberglass alone is very susceptible to the UV Rays of direct sunlight.
I believe this product is more of a finishing/fairing compound. In my opinion the best fix would be west system 105 resin and hardner with 1708 biaxial fiberglass.. As the epoxy is waterproof and the fiberglass will add some strength back to it. Unless it's a aluminum hull then I believe the process would be quite different.
Barrier coat will no fix leaks of that size it is for the prevention of osmosis you need to repair the leak structurally first the fair with water tire then barrier coat then bottom paint

I have not used this product on aluminum but if you clean the aluminum and then use zinc chromate as a primer it will be fine , this particular product works great on fiberglass
No. It is a thick filler paste. It is not a primer that can applied like paint.

I I let i fully cure / instructions on the can. Sanded easy and was easy to shape.
Depends on temperature. Product is an epoxy base so once cured, can be sanded. Ready to sand if it does not roll or clog paper.
can you use this product on a fiberglass gel coated pool? if so can you do it with the water in the pool?
You will need to empty the pool to expose the area. 1. Surface must be dry2. Sand th area exposing fiberglass3. Apply the product let it dry and sand to level to existing gcoat4. Apply water barrier coat and paint with gcoat
I am filling in the cracks on the canvas of a canoe. The instructions say do not put a top coat over repairs unless you paint it first with an expoxy primer. Is this necessary? I would wash and sand it and then paint with tremclade paint. I don't want to prime if I don't have to.Thanks - Dave

Hi David. I do not think this filler is suitable for covering cracked canvas. It is too rigid and will crack itself. It is more for fairing or smoothing of a more rigid base.
I wasn't sure how the top coat would react with the filler so I primed first. Are you sure the filler will bond to the canvas?
Can this be used to fill the gaps I have between my keel and my hull? My keel has been sealed to the hull with 5200, but I have some large gaps front,back, and small gaps that need fairing on the port and starboard sides of my keel. My aft keel area gap is like almost around an inch half wide, and an inch deep void with this material hang in an area this deep and setup?
Sounds like a large gap for a keel. While theWatertite will likely hang in the gap, I would first find out why there is such a large void. The Watertite is primarily used for small fairing and is easily suited for below waterline fairing and filling (like blisters). It does not like to be stressed though as is the case in a diret Keel to hull joint>
The short answer is it depends. I've used the product below the waterline to fair my hull and keel. It sands and grips the surface well. As long as there is no movement between hull and keel it will most likely work well. Remember to roughen the fiberglass surfaces. You may have to build out the large gaps with a few layers, however, curing was no problem for my single layer of a 1/2" deep by 4". Overall, I was very satisfied with InterProtect.Smooth Sailing!
Watertite is a superb product. I think it would work fine to fill the cracks/voids around your keel. The only question would be: will it adhere to the keel and your hull material, particularly if there is any movement between the keel and hull? I use WT both as a thin filler before painting, and as a void filler. Easy to mix. Easy to apply. Easy to sand smooth.One suggestion:Over-fill each void. Then, before the WT hardens too much, use a wood rasp or scraper to roughly shape your applied glob of WT, then use ordinary sandpaper for a final smoothing when the WT is hard.
I have used this products on the keel of my sailboat, I filled what it looked like some kind of separation, when I filled the seam I used fiber cloth,mixed with this epoxy, The job came out beautiful however I have not taken the boat out of the water to check the results . After I repaired the keel I added on top 3 coats of Pettit antifowling, over all the job came out strong and almost perfect

I made repairs to gelcoat and a few blisters on a 1972 Venture 2-24 sailboat. I mixed as per instructions and it took longer to dry than I expected(overnight), however when it dried it sanded well and and faired out well. It does take some elbow grease to sand so don't over fill. Wear latex gloves as it can be messy and difficult to get off your hands. Taking a long time to set up can be a blessing as it gives you time to work with it and smooth it out without it gumming up to soon. Mix small amount because a little goes a long way. Over all I was very satisfied with the product and the Jamestown Tech's that I spoke to on the phone. If you own a boat of any kind you need to know Jamestown Dist. Everyone I spoke with was very professional and very familiar with the products they sell.

Interlux watertite is a great fairing compound for finish and detail fairing. Does not develop pin holes and goes on very smooth and light with a plastic spreader. Sands out nicely as well.

I use this product for filling and fairing. It goes on smooth and cures quickly. Can be sanded the same day it is applied. The cured epoxy is very hard and strong, however sanding is more difficult than common boat building epoxy. So close attention to getting a smooth initial application is helpful. Can be easily mixed in small batches. One component is blue, the other is white. The colors mix to a light blue, which is very helpful to indicate the components are well mixed. I keep the batches sized for the immediate task, mixing additional batches as needed.
shrinks really bad at least 50 percent
I used this product to fair a steel keel. I would not say it was totally bad and finished out very nicely. But took three applications to fair out smoothly due to shrinking

First time using Epoxy filler
I found the product to be very easy to mix and apply. I suggest wearing disposable plastic gloves as working upside down can get messy. The product did not set too fast but then again was able to be sanded in just a few hours. I have not put the baot in the water yet but feel confident this product will hold up as it is very tough stuff once it completely dries.
Repair/build, almost anything.
It's great to fix holes, and imperfections in whatever your working on. Great for a skim coat before painting. Repair cracks in water jackets, manifolds, anything that leaks. Frozen, busted engine parts. Loose bolt holes. Any loose fit, fills gaps well. Sticks to anything, and paint sticks to it well, great for a primer skim coat on bottom of boat, makes it strong, and water tight. Fills in holes, mistakes. etc..It costs a lot, but you won't be sorry.

I have used this product for blister repairs to the bottom prior to new bottom paint as well as bottom scrapes and dock abrasions not to mention gell coat repairs and wood hatch slide cracks and items too numberous to mention. Beats the the heck outof bonso and many other products that I have tried. This is a good structural strength product. I have been a certified aircraft mechanic for over 50 years and now I work on my sail boats.
