Plexus AO420 is a two part methacrylate adhesive designed for structural bonding of thermoplastic, metal and composite substrates. Combined at a 10:1 ratio, it has a working time of 4 to 6 minutes and achieves 75% of ultimate strength in 15 to 18 minutes. Plexus AO 420 is the standard choice for composites bonding applications in the transportation industry, because it requires virtually no surface preparation.
A unique combination of high strength, excellent fatigue endurance, outstanding impact resistance, and superior toughness differentiates this adhesive from others. Plexus AO420 comes in a cream color but is also available in blue or black and is supplied in ready to use cartridges but again can be special ordered in 5 gallon pails, or 50 gallon drums and can be dispensed as a non-sagging gel using standard meter-mix equipment.

Effect of Temperature
Application of adhesive at temperatures between 65F and 80F will ensure proper cure. Temperatures below 65F will slow cure speed; above 80F will increase cure speed. The viscosities of Parts A and B of this adhesive are affected by temperature. To ensure consistent dispensing in meter-mix equipment, adhesive and activator temperatures should be held reasonably constant throughout the year. Adhesive in cured state behaves differently at elevated and reduced temperatures. See ITW Plexus for specific values.
Handling and Application Safety
Plexus AO420 adhesive (Part A) is flammable. Contents include Methacrylate Ester. Keep containers closed after use. Wear gloves and safety glasses to avoid skin and eye contact. Wash with soap and water after skin contact. In case of eye contact, flush with water for 15 minutes and get medical attention. Harmful if swallowed. Keep out of the reach of children. keep away from heat, sparks, and open flames. Referece the Material Safety Data Sheet for more complete safety information.
Note: Because of the rapid curing features of this product, large amounts of heat are generated when large masses of material are mixed at one time. The heat generated by the exotherm resulting from the mixing of large masses of adhesive can result in the release of entrapped air, steam, and volatile gases. To prevent this, use only enough material as needed for use within the working time for the product and confine gap thickness to no more than .375 inch. Questions & Answers about Plexus AO 420 High Strength Fast Cure Adhesive:
2015-06-17HAYLEY WEAVER asked: Can you remove adhesive after "fixture time"?? I want to use AO420 in simulator design and need to know if I will be able to remove the adhesive for simulator maintenance?
2015-06-17STEPHENSEN JACKSON: Not without risk of damage to the materials being adhered together. We use it on fiberglass components and it usually takes a layer of the fiberglass when parts are separated. If the surface is prepared properly it has a very strong bond.
2015-06-17JAMES RAMSEY: This is the toughest adhesive we have ever used. You will need to cut and grind to remove the adhesive unless it is applied to a surface that it will not adhere to like rubber or some plastics. We used the AO420 for bonding fiberglass togather.
