818/4/1 once I extended the bayonet from the handle it will no push back into the handle? The 818/4/1 number is on the driver handle.
Re Locked bayonet, I just tried mine and note this: push hard on round tapered green disc at base of handle( toward handle) and bayonet will be able to retract. There's a catch in action of that disc that will make you think you've pushed far enough. Just push disc harder and action will work.
It will retract if you push the gray colored ring back toward the handle. On mine, it takes a lot of pressure to do this. On the other hand, I doubt it would retract by accident.
The screw driver in the 25 pc kit that I have is a 3816R.I do own a 818/4/1 in order to retract the shaft extension you have to pull back on the green collar that allows the shaft to extend or retract .Push the collar and press the shaft back into the handle .Push the collar again and the shaft will extend automatically Hope this answers your question I had to get the screw drivers together in order to answer you question .All the best Robin
Once I extend the bayonet it will not return into the handle?
Take it out and make sure there isn't something jamming it. You need to push the green wring in order for it to compress.
Is the Wera Fraftform screw driver stainless? Are the bits stainless, so they can be used on stainless screws? Or are they forged, in which case they will cause stainless screws to rust?
All of the hardware in the Wera tool sets I purchased appeared top quality stainless steel other than the handles, of course. I only purchased these sets after researching how Wera developed the process of cold vacuum hardening stainless in order to make it hard enough to use in hand tools. It seems to be a successful process, as the tools work well. I think anyone who appreciates quality craftsmanship will be pleased with them. I also commend Jamestown Distributors for their top notch customer service and quick shipping.
the bits are forged. I didn't note magnetism on shaft or head assembly. My take on hand tools in any compartment or on deck is simple. So long as tools are used properly, they should not impart leavings on stainless fasteners. That said, stainless steel is softer than forged steel, one should use care to not bung up stainless fasteners anyway. This tool is it handy enough to change bits for stainless if you prefer and keep the essence intact. Well designed and best stored in an easily accessible location, because you're going to want to use it.
I now have two products from Wera and am very satisfied with both. The laser tip tech. really grips the screw head and is a real asset in close, dark spaces. Other screwdriver bits fit the system for those custom screw heads. This product is a great gift for friends.
