How is the horn operated? I have a boat with no horn and would like to install one.
12VDC power fused via a switch.
Battery powerI just connected thru a switch to the main 12 volt battery
easy install, but the sound will make you LOL
It is switch operated, so you will need to install a switch somewhere accessible since you'll need to run either power or ground to it.
This horn is designed as a replacement for a 12 volt original equipment signal device. I bought it to replace a burned out horn on my 17 year old 31' Sea Ray--which is wired from the helm. The installation, when I do it myself, will simply require attaching the horn to the two wires and mounting it in the original pre-drilled hole. Simple. Frankly If I were you, I would consider a simpler approach: Either buy an inexpensive air compressor horn or the simplest unit which includes all the electrical components you will need to wire the switch to the battery for power, etc. If you are currently operating a vessel with no horn (you must, by law, have some signaling device), then you do not need to go overboard and (no pun intended) get fancy. A horn is a safety device. The simpler the better. In any case, this product package only includes the horn itself and the instructions are minimal. I would continue searching.
12 volts connected to a spring toggle switch on dash.
You will need a 12 volt power supply, ground and a switch.
How do they sound?
I have not idea, the wait for delivery would have put me way past boating season, so I canceled the order.
It sounded great initially but it seems that the loudness has diminished quite a bit in the last 8 months.

The horn sounds good and does the job. I hope it will last The last one lasted 4 years. This horn was factory installed on my 21 foot ski boat (212x) I was not about to cut a hole in my $35k boat for a horn. I am thankful the horn was still available.
What is the C - C dimension for the mounting holes?
I used this horn to replace the factory horn on my Sea Ray boat. I do not know any dimensions but it did fit the factory holes exactly. It work great and looks just like the original.
