Does anyone have an approximate idea of what the dB is of this unit?
I thought sure that the Loudness was rated on the Jamestown site, but I can't find it !? Don't know why any dealer would not include that spec ?? At any rate, here is a link to another site stating the 123 db rating ..WELL .. THEY DIDN'T LIKE MY INCLUDING A LONK TO ANOTHERT SITE .. This is a VERRY high Quality polished stainless steel Assembly .. even has stainless steel diaphragms !!TAKE MY WORD FOR IT .. I BELIEVE THE 123 db RATING !!.. it IS REALLY LOUD !! Russ Pratt, Webster, MA ..
No idea of the decibels, but it is really loud. It is the only horn we found to mount on a Catrpillar D6T crawler tractor that could alert the trucks he is pushing thru the construction fill.
bought this unit some time ago because of its high db rating. want to say < 122db
Loud is the word. You will not be unheard ever at the dock the locks or in the fog. I would guess 120 dBs. And it sounds like a boat horn should.
The advertised number is 123 db
Well, the listing in Jamestown's website is 110 dB at 1 meter...
I do not know the dB of the unit, but never had a question about its ability to adequately protect us in an emergency. I would be surprised if this information was not available directly from the manufacturer.
Have installed two double horns on my 54 ft trawlerEstimate around 90 dcbJelleSingapore

It seems to me the manufacturer's literature claimed 115 Db. I don't have any way to verify, but I can say the sound output is similar to the level from one of those hand-held pressurized can units. It is certainly plenty loud enough for routine signaling.
are the trumpets stainless steel also?
I believe so, although I don't know the grade. Mine have now been on for 2 years and the finish is as-new. I replaced essentially the same model that I believe was the boat's original equipment (from 1999), and that set of horns still had a good finish, but had gotten water in the sound mechanism, which made it inoperable. This is in a Mainship trawler, mounted on the bridge, easily 12 feet above the water, but still got wet. The new horns have a better gasket/seal design than the originals, but I still remove the cover at the end of the year to check. So far, bone dry and no corrosion. I'm very satisfied.
Yes they are.
I am very happy with the horns
ROBERT VAN HORN
Yes they are stainless steel.
As far as I can determine, yes they are SS
JELLE DE VRIES
Yes, the trumpets are stainless steel. Be sure to mount them with the trumpets angled down so they do not collect water. Internal parts of diaphragm may not be stainless.
can these be wired using the wiring on your ome horn relay?
Not certain. We simply hooked it up to old horn 12v supply and it works fine. If the relay puts out 12v I would imagine it should work
It apparently doesn't draw enough to need a relay, as I wired it in directly to 12 volts through the horn button in the boat. Works fine. As I recall, there is no mention of a relay in the installation instructions either.
can you hear what they sound like before you buy them ?
Yes you can. I can also tell you I have been pleased with this horn on my 28' Boat.
Only if the store let you hook it up to a 12 volt battery or battery charger, like we did!
How loud is it?
Very Loud, most important when mounting the horn, have the trumpets tilted down so an water will NOT collect inside the dual horns, very reliable horn!
Considerably louder than the one I replaced (on my Mainship 430). I'm very happy with it.
it is 123 d very LOUD!!!!
Very loud. Makes everyone jump.
Sound is good and plenty loud enough on my AJ-28.
Very loud. Makes everyone jump.
It's not as strong and deep as an air horn, but it is very adequate for safe operation in all weather conditions . I was very pleased with the improvement it provided me over what I had before. Would buy it again if needed.
I;m tempted to ask in return "Compared to what?" It meets the Coast Guard standard for inland lake use. It is not a train horn, or a diesel-style truck horn, but is good for my use
Wiring diagram for 12V dual trumpet electric horn?
I replaced an existing poor sounding horn with this one and it is a great sounding horn. Very pleased with it, I connected it to the exhisting wiring with no problem.
2000 Lakeview Houseboat - I got this to replace the previous boat horn which was a small air horn. Apparently the existing wire is too small. The horn won't work from the salon galley, and works SOMETIMES from the fly-bridge. I'm going to have to rewire it which I'm not excited about. Sorry, but I can't tell you the existing wire size, but it's too small.
Very simple to install. One wire from fused 12 volt power, (key controlled through Accessory terminal on ignition switch, or direct [live all the time]from battery), through one terminal of horn switch. Connect the other side of the horn switch to one lead of the horn. Connect the other lead from the horn to a reliable ground. Push the horn button and listen to the nice noise.Should have been a diagram with the horn.
Thanks- Horn has four wires does it reguire a separate switch for each pair of wires?Or are they wired together so both trumpets sound together?
No, sorry, pair the wires from the horns, one of each to the power and one of each to the ground. If you are using terminals for quick-connect (like automotive, spade or bullet connectors) use large enough terminals to accommodate two wires on the horn side. (color coded blue or yellow)
Good experience. The new horn really blows.
I would buy from here again.
Was looking to replace my oem horn which was a basic single clown horn. Researched several and landed on this AFI XL duel trumpet. Arrived and installed, what a difference and now when I use them they draw attention.
