My Current Pelican hook that I am trying to replace seem to be opposite threat. "Lefty Tighty" Are these hooks threaded that way?
These are right hand thread, left hand thread would be a special order.

how do these hooks compare to CS Johnson pelican hooks?
Sorry - don't know.
I don't have direct experience with the Johnson hooks. They advertise that the load when latched isn't on the moving part of the hook so you can release them under load easily. I don't know what "under load" means aside from "when latched." I've had no trouble opening the suncor hook I bought so I'm not clear what the advantage of the Johnson design is. The Suncor I bought replaced an identical hook that was damaged when it got wedged between dock and boat while hanging down from the open gate. It's been trouble-free. Bottom line: the Johnson has a better design that I don't think is worth the extra money under most circumstances I can imagine.
I do not have any knowledge of CS Johnson pelican hooks. However, the Suncor 316 SS pelican hook was an exact match to my other life line hooks and has worked perfectly since installed.
My existing Pelican Hook has a left-handed thread. Will the Suncor work? Am I misunderstanding the nomenclature?
I already had the SUNCOR pelican hooks installed on my lifelines so I was replacing one that I accidentally lost overboard. I also bought the SUNCOR hooks because they were much less expensive than the ones West Marine was selling in their store. The SUNCOR hooks are comparable quality hooks in my estimation. I have not compared the breaking strength ratings of the two different hooks.
I don't know about comparison, but Suncor is nicely made and it holds well. Releases when you want it to. The tang is wide so measure to see if the attachment point on your boat is wide enough to take it.
I can not compare to the cs johnson as don't have one of those. I can however say the Suncor was surprisingly well made for the price and has held up well. For the price it is hard to beat. I would buy it again.
how far do the threads go in?
My threads go in 2"along the "bolt" part of the hook assembly.

Good price and got free shipping, too!
Good solid product at a great price. Was able to take advantage of a free shipping offer which made it an even better purchase.
The drawing of this item indicated an inside diameter when, in fact, it was the outside diameter. Had to order all three available sizes to get the correct one. JDI were most helpful in having this happen. And the price was RIGHT! Thank you!
