What is the difference between A Weight paper backing and C Weight paper backing...Which is the higher quality? I'm assuming A weight, but I don't know for sure.
Thank you Jeff. I appreciate the information.
Actually, c weight is heavier, and is the stick it paper I use, primarily 80g. Great stuff, I use it on a hard block to level joints and adjust end grain fits as well
Thank you for the information Thaddeus!
from what I know, A-weight paper backing is a bit less durable, but allows for easier conforming to shapes, etc. C-weight is used for many of 3M's wet-or-dry products and is a more durable backing.
Thank you Jeffrey...Much appreciated.
’¢??A’¢?? papers are very thin & flexible.’¢??C’¢?? papers are heavier but still flexible. It's not really a matter of quality. It's a matter of need and function
is 3M stikit gold longboard sandpaper available in lesser qaunities?I don't really need 45 yds.
Sorry, no that is the only size.
Anyone tried this on the TDS seam sander ?
Just wondering - Why did I get this email onApril 15th when you responded on April 1 ?I have already driven up and picked up the roll.It seems to work great on the seam sander.
I use the paper all the time good stuff. I used I on my air sander and sending board. Works great. I
I have only used this product with a long board and a sanding block. It works very well for me, I think it is a good product.
We used this on an air powered long bord sander. It worked best with minimal pressure and an additive that if you thought you needed to change paper you needed to change paper. The heat does make the glue really want to stick to the board so don't press the life out of it.
I have not used it with TDS Seam Sander, but use it for all professional varnish work I do. Good stuff :)Mary RichterFine Yacht Finishing, LLC
Excellent for sharpening and sanding
I watched the Lie-Neilson video on sharpening/restoring an edge to a plane or chisel and recently needed to restore an edge to a plane blade. The 3M product worked perfectly allowing me to quickly restore the edge without risking damage by overheating with a grinding wheel.I also find that it has just the right amount of adhesive - it releases from sanding blocks easily but also holds tightly.
The PSA adhesive has just the right amount of holding power and it is easy to remove but holds tight for sanding.
The Cane Maker
Clogs more than SandBlaster
After using the 80 grit with great results (long lasting, doesn't clog) I was disappointed with the 180 grit clogging very easily. Sandblaster 180 grit is much better at not clogging.
Most versatile and durable yet!
My company Mollberg Piano Restoration sands just about everything on a piano. We restore/refinish case work, put in soundboards, rebuild piano actions. This 3m Stikit Gold sand paper is the best we have ever used. The PSA backing makes it easy to use a variety of sanding blocks, of any size or shape. The grit is extremely durable and will out last anything we have tried. We have used it for wet sanding with good results. Excellent resistance to clogging when sanding sealers, or top coat lacquers. Wide range of available grits make this extremely versatile. An expensive product, but an excellent value. If we MUST sand, we can at least use a great sand paper!
