Interlux Fiberglass Bottomkote NT

Interlux Fiberglass Bottomkote NT (New Technology) uses Dual Resin Technology to provide the advantages in both ablative and hard antifouling paints.

This durable coating prevents premature wear-through, yet it has a slow polishing effect that keeps the hull clean & smooth without the heavy paint build-up you can get year after year with a traditional hard antifouling.

Because Bottomkote NT dries so quickly, you can paint and launch the boat the same day. Suitable for all substrates except aluminum.

APPLICATION AND USE

Preparation

PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES: In Good Condition Remove loose paint by sanding with 80 grade (grit) paper, wipe with Special Thinner 216. In Poor Condition Remove antifouling paint in poor condition with Interstrip Semi-Paste 299E.

BARE FIBERGLASS: Begin by scrubbing well using soap and water and a stiff brush. Rinse with fresh water and allow to dry. Wipe a small area with a clean rag that has been wetted with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202. While the surface is still wet, wipe with a clean, dry rag. Continue this process until the entire surface has been cleaned. Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue. Wipe with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202.

BARE WOOD: Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Clean with Special Thinner 216. Apply first coat reduced 10% with Special Thinner 216. Fill seams, if necessary, with Seam Compound Brown 30.

STEEL: Contact Interlux® for further details.

Method At least 2 coats should be applied.

Great paint but almost too fast drying

4

I purchased Interlux Fiberglass Bottomkote NT by Interlux for repainting the lower hull of my 1940's 16' Comet sailboat. I liked that the paint was fast drying, but it seemed to dry a little too fast when applying. I used a paint roller to apply then a 7" paint pad to smooth out any of the texture. However, I had to be very careful and move fast in small sections because the paint would start drying immediately and would get tacky. The paint covered really well but I still applied two coats which ended up using about 1/2 gallon of paint. It says that you don't need to sand in between coats, but I lightly sanded smoothed out some areas. I did all of the work in an open garage in about 70 degrees. In the end, the repainted hull looks great and sure to last many summers to come.

The 3rd year using this product and couldn't be more pleased. Excellent adhesion and very little growth on the hull. I highly recommend this paint. And the price is an added bonus!

I've been using this bottom paint for 3 seasons now and must say it's the best for the money. After long seasons, almost no growth when hauled. Great product! Would recommend to all boaters...

Easy to apply, use 2 coats, nice finish

Good price. Oil based but dried quickly even at low temperature. My boat sailed faster after I applied this paint. It has a satiny smooth finish after 2 coats. Looked good, but nobody will see that finish except when I am well heeled! I keep my boat in the water year around. Practical Sailor recommended this paint although it is new, it was doing well in their ongoing tests.
