TotalBoat Underdog Bottom Paint

TotalBoat Underdog is a dependable, solvent-based, single-season antifouling bottom paint that provides outstanding protection at a very affordable price. Its ablative action is designed to work most effectively on boats that are used on a regular basis.

Extensive testing has proven that TotalBoat Underdog provides excellent protection against barnacles and other antifouling pests in all water conditions. Ablative technology allows the surface to polish away over time, minimizing paint build-up as well as releasing fresh layers of biocide as the season progresses. Underdog has excellent adhesion to fiberglass and wood.

This was originally used on a sailboat that was previous bottom painted and used in salt water. We were using in fresh water only. Not knowing what bottom paint was used previously, it took a lot of sanding to remove all, some patching and a good solvent wipe before applying. Like anything else, you need a good foundation, don't skimp on the prep. I applied 4 coats and it looked great. Each spring I'd give a quick sanding to remove the shedding and smooth it out, then apply 2 fresh coats. Paint did it's job and was reasonably priced. The blue color we selected was a big improvement over the old brown too. Would recommend for sure.

Since we have used TotalBoat Wood Finish on teak and liked it's coverage and high build characteristics I wanted to try the bottom paint. While the jury is still out until the end of the season for the bottom protection the application left something to be desired. Areas required three coats to cover which was far more than the Pettit bottom paint we usually get from Jamestown. The particular boat is going to a new owner in NC and we coated the rudder and keel with Pettit and TotalBoat on the rest of the boat (with the owner's permission). I'll be interested in the owner's report at the end of this season as to the longevity of the two paints. We will go back to Pettit on our other boats. From Jamestown of course.

Used this last year on our '86 268WE and absolutely LOVED it. It went on easy and in short time, all we had to do was sand a few areas. It held up cleanly against the filth of the Ohio haha. Recently bought an '89 340DA and plan on using this for it. As compared to other paints on the market......GREAT BANG FOR THE SMALL BUCK!! just mix it really good and give the can a few shakes and inversions

Comments about TotalBoat Underdog Bottom Paint:

I have used Interlux and Pettit ablatives. Last season I ran out of Pettit and used Underdog to finish up. The diver reported NO difference in growth, I noticed no difference when the boat was hauled either. It's all Underdog this season, can't beat the performance for the price.

Thanks for the rollers, trays and the painting suit.
the free shipping was a deal breaker too. I have used this paint with excellent results on my wooden boat fleet in Barnegat Bay NJ. good price per gallon versus other brands from other retailers at astronomical prices per quart. Let me think about it.Our boats look great and are rather clean at the end of a season so this it it for me.
