what engine oil do i use for a merc 1999 v 6 vortec engine?
Just a guess, but the Vortec is a GM engine and they all use 5W30 oil when in a vehicle. You can also use a synthetic of similar weight.
where can i find the throttle linkage for 45 hp mariner 2 cyl carburation?
A full scale Mariner Dealer. It should be the same for Mercury Marine engine, but you will need Model and Spec numbers from your motor to get the correct parts.
I have recently been successful in identifying and obtaining parts for ancient outboard motors from marine dealer Hank's Sales & Service, 606 N. Obannon Street, Raymond, IL 62560, 217.229.2012..Good luck..George
Does this manual have parts diagram?
No it is strictly a service manual.but you can find parts breakdowns on line.Just google the engine model # parts
I have a 2004 or 2005 60 hp Mercury O.D. Motor and I want to purchase a good detailed motor repair manual to work on the fuel injection system. Will this manual be very helpful in accomplishing repair on the fuel system?
Hi bob, my name is clifton and i recently purchased the murcury manual. i had no problems following the manual and found that it was very much indepth! it was very helpful with what i had to do and hopefully it will help you as well. good luck! clifton.
My motor has oil injection, and it was ok for that. I never looked at the fule injection stuff. If that is the same detail and quality as the oil injection and carburation sections - then you should be good.
Yes it will it is a very detailed manual

I am looking for a 2002 meercury outboard 40 h.p owners manual. is this a 2 stroke.? thanks
I have a son who recently purchased a 1992 Mercury Mariner motor. He asked me if I knew where he could get a repair/maintenance manual. I had recently purchased ( through a friend) some material from Jamestown. When I Googled Mercury manuals up came Jamestown. This is a really good outfit. I strongly suggest you try them!
I have just purchased a new Pontoon that has a 60hp 4 stroke Mercury engine. My neighbor has advise me to keep the prop down in the water during the winter because it hold water which could freeze and burst is this true?
I would be more worried about water trapped in the water jacket on the power head, and possibly water in the lower unit (if you had a leaky seal) freezing with the motor in a tilted full up position. The motor in the down position would probably drain all areas better. Still, there may be places in the cooling system that water pockets, or in areas on top of the lower unit that don't go directly to a leg drain.
Hi Larry, All outboards hold water in the tilted up posistion. If you are in a location that freezes do you haul the pontoon for the winter? If so you can lower the motor after haul out. The water will than drain out of the lower unit.

I needed a book for my motor, to help me tune it up. I got it running, and ready to go diving.
Rip Off! Tries to cover too much materia
Tries to cover too much material(2.5-250hp) and does none well. Hard to find anything I need, pictures are black and white, small and fuzzy- little to no help. Focus is Optimax, but advertised as Mercury in general. I have 25/30 hp Mercurys, and it is virtually useless for them.
What a great source and a great product!
I'm retired and love to fish. I own, use and love two old Mercury outboards (Merc 60 & Merc 110)and this repair manual is perfect for guiding me through procedures, listing tolerances and specifying torque requirements to keep these little motors up and running. The illustrations, tables and photos are excellent, and the instructions are logical and very readable.I just replaced the water pump components in the Merc 110, and this manual made the process simple from beginning to end.Great ProductJamestown Distributors' product advertizement for this product was very accurate,[...]
