will a 5271-3 replace a 5272-3 sea star helm pump
It will fit, but more importantly, do you still need the added cubic inches of the 5272-3. Please call one of our techs at (800) 497-0010 if you want to discuss the options to best fit your needs.

Looking to replace a sea star hh 5260, seems very hard to find. Will a hh5261 work in place of the older unit? Its in stalled on a twin diesel sportfish boat. Thanks
The HH5261 is a 1.7 cu displacement Rear Mount. The HH5260 is a 1.4 cu. The 1.7 would be a little easier turning.

HOW do you replace the hh5271 helm pump seal?
I tried to replace just the seal but it didn't work. I wound up ordering the whole assembly. It fixed the problem and was fairly easy. Hope that helps.
Replacing seals would be a job for an experienced mechanic!!!
I keep getting oil leaking out of the helm pump filler/vent cap. Have replaced the O ring on the vent filler cap. Any idea what's causing this?
Over fill? When is it leaking? Is it when you turn the wheel? I haven't seen this and to be honest I'd be making a guess at it. Have you tried Seastar product support. I've talked to them in the past and they were very helpful.Best of luck
Not really, but if you asked a good mechanic or contact the manufacturer!!?
Never had this problem. Is the cap new?
I Need a replacement hydaulic fill plug on my helm unit, its a Sea Star 1,7,HH5271 , can you help me with this? thanks,Jerry
If Seastar doesn't have it, try one of the hydrolic repair services.

Port Charlotte, FL
My use was a retrofit of and older helm that had an 4 1/2" openng in my console. With the use of the backing plate, the install not only looks great, but was pretty routine.
