How often should replace 3Mfilter?
That really depends on what kind of water is being filtered and the volume of water being used. With fairly clean and reasonably salt-free water I change this easy to handle filter every 6 months. Incidentally, we are "full-timers".
The B3 cartridge is rated for 15,000 gallons capacity, so you could calculate your estimated usage to determine length of use. We are full time RV ers and use about 10,000 gal/yr, an don't replace ours every 18 months, or so.
That depends on your location and the quality of the local water. I am in San Diego and I change my out every 6 to 8 months. There are a lot of sediments in the water where I am and I don't have the build up issues on my faucets if I do that. the fixtures can be real expensive to repair or replace if I let the service go. The filters usually have a quantity of recommended water through them but again that depends on your location.
every 2000 gallons
The filter life is rated at 7,500 gallons. The actual life determined primarily by two factors.First, flow will eventually be reduced by clogging with sediment or silt in the water. In my experience, if the water is very silty, this can shorten the life to hundreds of gallons. Second, once the activated carbon gets loaded up with dissolved organics to the point that it doesn't effectively adsorb any more, odors will no longer be effectively removed. So, if your flow rate drops off, or you notice odors, then it is time to change filters.A couple of other considerations: Once the filter has accumulated organic material in it, you can potentially get a bacteria buildup or bio-film growing in it. So after any long periods of non-use it is advisable to flush the filter by running water through it. Finally, when you sanitize your water system, you will need to take the filter out of the system first, otherwise the activated carbon will immediately get loaded up, making the filter ineffective against chlorine and other organic odors. So, I typically replace mine every couple of years, which means I get more like 750 gallons.
As far as I've found, this 3M filter is one of the best if not the best water filter on the market. We have one installed on our boat, a 42' Tayana sailboat which we typically cruise and live aboard during the winter months in tropical waters (Bahamas and Caribbean). We have plumbed all of our water through it.The specs say that the filter is good for 7500 gallons. That's far more than we use in any given year of cruising, but I've made a practice of replacing the filter each year when the boat has been taken out of off-season storage and is being re-commissioned for the year. That way I don't chance something having grown in the filter while water was not circulating in it for the 6 to 8 months we've been away.We have our filter plumbed just downstream of the boat's water tanks. Just to be extra safe, we also pre-filter everything going into the tanks with a separate charcoal filter canister, but that has nowhere near the filtering capability of the 3M filter. Since we're often filling our tanks from public water sources, sometimes in 3rd world countries, we like to be safe rather than sorry.
I have used the 3M B2 filter for several years with excellent results.to that end I have changed the filter every year.
Is this the B3 model?
Yes, it is.
No I bought the B2
It appears to be the same as the B2. Mine is installed in a Carri Lite Fifth Wheel RV. It was manufactured in 2008. Model 36 Max1
I have no idea what the B3 model looks like (you could probably google it and see), but this little picture looks exactly like our B2 filter. We've been extremely satisfied with our 3M B2 filter which we use to filter all water on our boat. We change the filter element once a year after layup.
Have used the B2 for three yrs in my 5th wheel, works well.
Can I use this as an upgraded cartridge in my Itasca which came with a filter sytem that uses the A1 cartridge?
I don't know if the B2 can be used in an A1 setup but I'm pretty sure the B1 is an upgrade for the A1.
I believe the upgrade for the A1 is the A2 cartridge, not the B2.
I have no idea. Sorry!
I do not know. The fittings are a very specific size.
Fits like a charm

Easy installation. Good for improving water quality in my RV.
Works great for the boat
Installed on my boat for entire water system. Easy to install and very easy to change cartridge. Not sure if it is needed, but I change cartridge each season and never had a problem. Somewhat expensive but I feel it's worth having clean drinking water.
