USCG Type I approval meets the most stringent standards. Type I PFDs provide maximum buoyancy and turn an unconscious victim face up in the water.
This type of life jacket is your best bet in open ocean waters, rough seas, or remote locations. The design keeps head clear of water. This is the personal flotation device type used on commercial vessels for emergency abandon-ship situations. Type I PFDs prioritize functionality and survival over wearer comfort.

Hope he'll wear it!
Son, who sails alone and with others on Great Lakes, was diagnosed with epilepsy. Meds working and he will sail again when cleared to drive, but MD recommends that he wear Type I PFD. Happy to find this one. Hope he will find that it doesn't restrict his movement overmuch. Seems (necessarily?) snug around the neck: may need to wear bandanna to minimize irritation?

Excellent Life Jacket (PFD)
I sail and cruise the Great Lakes. We were called by a big lake ship who told us our radar image looked like another ship, due to the radar reflective patches. I am not aware of a better pfd.
