TotalBoat Penetrating Epoxy Kits

TotalBoat Penetrating Epoxy is a low-viscosity wood rot restoration and repair solution that seals deeper & cures stronger than industry-leading penetrating epoxies. It contains no VOCs and has no smell.

This 2:1 system is ideal for restoring rotten or damaged wood, or sealing new wood for lasting protection against humidity, salt, mold & mildew. TotalBoat Penetrating Epoxy works by gluing cellulose (wood) fibers back together, sealing a porous wood surface from the inside out. Once cured, this epoxy is 100% waterproof.

Surfaces may be painted or varnished over after light sanding. TotalBoat Penetrating Epoxy may be applied by brush, roller, or injected via syringe. Acetone can be mixed with the epoxy resin solution in equal volume to double the penetrating power.

Choose from Traditional (suited for 65 F and warmer) or Cold Weather (40 to 65 F) formulas.

TotalBoat Cold Weather Penetrating Epoxy is perfect for use during the colder seasons. Compared to our traditional TotalBoat Penetrating Epoxy, our Cold Weather formula offers similar performance characteristics, but cures completely and reliably in cooler temperatures. Its tack-free properties also allow you to sand sooner.

WARNING: TotalBoat Cold Weather Penetrating Epoxy should not be used as a fast-cure epoxy in warmer temperature conditions because doing so can be unsafe and result in premature exotherm, brittleness, and improper curing.

Application Temperature Ranges:

  • Traditional formula - 65-90°F
  • Cold Weather formula - 40-65°F

Use For:

  • Sealing open wood pores
  • Glues wood fibers back together
  • Fungi & mildew protection
  • Rotten wood restoration

I needed to add some re-enforcement of the wood fibers to sit under a tung oil finish for outdoor Log furniture. The shipping and packing was great received two measuring cuts and gloves so excellent touch that don't see much of these days from China sea.

Seems pretty fool proof, did not experiment with mixtures just followed the video on the site. I was expecting a hardening fast and sticky but it was not, It had a good working time brushed on well. You can see it sinking into the wood and filling the cracks.

It went on darker than I was hoping for but expected as much. I was planning on using it on three full size log furniture benches and a small log furniture top. With the darken on the color I decided not to use it on the whole small table and the other three benches. But the top turned out awesome. Added light pine trim to accent the top. The tung oil finish over the expoxy and with just the one coat of finish it gave a clear glass finish that really popped.

Didn't use all the product as stated but as far as using it for open grained wood excellent and also would recommend its use if you want to make a table out of salvaged wood with defects as it enhances it and give one of the best bases I have seen for final finish as it did not seen to interfere and dried clear with no blushing or uneven drying.

Product may perform perfectly well in some situations, however it has a short pot life in larger batches compared to Smith's CPES. We used this to saturate a still beam after removing surface rot. The pot life was shorter than CPES and it did not seem to penetrate as well. We lost quite a lot of the product in the pot before we could get it on to the wood. while the Total boat may be fine for pre treating wood, I would not give it a strong recommendation for rot treatment when high penetration into the wood is desired

      Excellent but confusing instructions

Comments about TotalBoat Penetrating Epoxy Kits:

Once you get the proportions right of epoxy and hardener, this system is terrific. The Jamestown Distributors website gives the right instructions, but the Total Boat jugs say simply, "Mix 5 parts epoxy and 1 part hardener." The pumps supplied in the kit deliver the correct proportions with ONE pump each. I made an expensive mistake by mixing 5 pumps epoxy + 1 pump hardener, which hasn't hardened up in a month. What I did by the 5 + 1 pumps mix was actually to mix 25 parts epoxy to one part hardener. Now that I have mixed the correct proportions, I realize that this is excellent stuff but a beginner like me may well make the same mistake since all printed guidance says simply "Mix 5-1."

Comments about TotalBoat Penetrating Epoxy Kits:

I assumed that this product had no amine blush as the documentation does not suggest washing the blush off before recoating or top coating. I called Jamestown's tech. help line and was told that I should wash the surface prior to recoating etc. Good Product, vague instructions.

First experience with TotalBoat product. Bought because of Lew's video on product. Might be ok inside controlled environment but outside, use caution. Lots of bubbles even with different techniques. Thins well with acetone. Fairly easy to sand out.

Comments about TotalBoat Penetrating Epoxy Kits:

This resin is very thin, like water, and I inject it into wood which has lost its structure due to termites, dry rot, etc. It saturates quickly, and cures overnight, creating an ideal base for applying thickened epoxy wherever voids need to be filled. The thickened epoxy cannot be absorbed into wood, and therefore no shrinkage occurs (surface remains flush).
