What is the shelf life of Thixo Fast cure after the cartridge has been half used assuming care was taken in replacing the stopper and cap? Is it still good as long as it comes out of the cartridge readily? Thanks
Typically epoxy has a 12 month shelf life. As long as it dispenses, it should be good, however if it's really old you should try a test mix first.
I have some Thixo Fast Cure and some Total Boat High Performance Resin with slow hardener.I want to lay some fiberglass mat and wet it out with the High Performance resin with slow hardener and then add a layer of the Thixo fast cure to set in a piece of balsa for a deck repair. Will those two resin products be compatible? Thanks
Yes. You should let the lamination cure, then sand and clean before adhering the balsa.
Question on your TotalBoat Thixo Fast Cure 2:1 Epoxy System (THIXOFC-K) are the tips reusable? And the mixing of the resin and hardner happens in the tips right?
No. They are not. Order the multi pack of tips.
I haven't tried reusing a tip. It appeared to mix a little ways from the very tip so I think it would probably kick over. I bought a bunch of tips... I have had good luck with using one tube over several months on smaller applications. The stuff is awesome.
The mixing of the resin and hardener occurs in the tips so after a while, the contents inside the tip will harden.
The tips are not reusable. The mix happens in the tips. Be sure to have a strong caulking gun as the mix is stiff.
No the tips are not reusable, but the main body is.So make sure you order some extra tips😉
Hi There,The tips are not re usable as the epoxy will harden inside them. When mounting the tip, I have found it worth while to be sure both resin side and hardener side are squeezed up full before hand. Sometimes there can be a bit of space on one side or the other. I had a small area of a fillet which did not harden well because of this. The partial tubes can be re capped and last quite well.
As far as I know they cannot be reused. The mixing does indeed take place in the tip, the two parts are spiraled around and mixed (an ingenious idea).BTW, it takes a lot of hand force on the calking applicator handle to squeeze the epoxy through the tip, perhaps an electric caulking applicator would be a good thing.Since the tips and tubes of epoxy are rather expensive, and the tips non reusable I have gone back to mixing epoxy from gallon jugs in plastic cups and applying with a flat stick, much cheaper and more control over epoxy by adding thickeners to each batch. Of course I'm usually mixing small batches for small boats.BD
Hi Wayne, the solvent and time that it would take to clean a tip enough to reuse is not financially viable. It's just not worth it. We understand the issue and so we send all Thixo products with 2 tips with each tube. More tips can be purchased separately as well. The mixing tip is full of little chambers and as the resin and hardener flow through the static mixing tip, they mix adequately for application.

why can this product not be used to fill gaps?
Because it cannot be applied over 1/2" thick because it will generate heat as it cures at thicknesses over 1/2", use the regular Thixo not the Fast Cure.

Will this product work on stone as well?
Thinking about using Thiox Fast Cure to construct plywood dinghies with my students. Two things: How are the fumes from this product? And, how long of a bead can I expect to get from a tube?
There isn't much smell. A 1/4" bead will do about 15 linear feet in the 185 ml tube.
I would purchase this product again.
I used an amount that was a small quantity and it mixed well by hand.
Works just like regular Thixo, but cures much faster!
This solved a bedding problem I was facing. It did what I needed and more. I will definitely use THIXO again
Excellent product, worked very well for my chosen application
The only that I didn't like is that the flow of liquid is hard to control as it comes out of the tube.
Thixo products are great, but application varies.
Great end of result product application from the applicator is not always easy sometimes it flows well other times it's like buying a wasted tube of epoxy product may need a shelf life date
Works as Advertised
Works well when used as directed. Tubes are useable to the last drop.
Good stuff - will get more
Tried Thixo as an experiment. Used it to glue up a small birds mouth spar. No mess, no fuss - it just worked. My shop was close to the recommended 55 degrees limit, so it took a little longer than 4 hours to get hard enough to sand. But overnight, it was hard as a rock and ready to roll.Came out of the tube the consistency of Vasaline. Dried about the same color but not a problem since the joints in this application are internalI think I'll try Thixo Wood next.
All and all was impressed with product. Equally impressed with the help I recieved from techs on this product. Again Jamestown stands behind their products. Plan to use this again. In this application I used it as a glue to adhere glass panels togetherAnd then glass over them worked great.
Thixo Pro Amazing
Used this product to repair hard to reach transom wooden section!
