Pettit Neptune 5 Bottom Paint

Pettit Neptune5 is a hybrid antifouling paint that provides the toughness of a hard paint with the protection against all types of fouling you get from a seasonal ablative. Apply over all previously painted surfaces, and resists buildup after repeated applications.

This cost-effective water based paint is easy to apply and requires no sanding between coats, saving you time. Unlimited dry time to launch means you can paint today and launch later. Haul and relaunch without losing effectiveness. Eco-friendly Neptune5 has no harsh solvent odors, so you can paint indoors, and cleanup is easy with soap and water.

Available in black, blue, green and red colors in quart, gallon, and 2 gallon sizes.

Note: Neptune5 has been discontinued and replaced by Neptune HRT

SURFACE PREPARATION
Coating performance, in general, is proportional to the degree of surface preparation. Follow recommendations carefully, avoiding shortcuts. Inadequate preparation of surfaces will virtually assure inadequate coating performance.

MAINTENANCE
No antifouling paint can be effective under all conditions of exposure. Man-made pollution and natural occurrences can adversely affect antifouling paint performance. Extreme hot and cold water temperatures, silt, dirt, oil, brackish water and even electrolysis can ruin an antifouling paint. Therefore, we strongly suggest that the bottom of the boat be checked regularly to make sure it is clean and that no growth is occurring. Lightly scrub the bottom with a soft brush to remove anything from the antifouling paint surface. Scrubbing is particularly important with boats that are idle for extended periods of time. The coating is most effective when the boat is used periodically.

This product has been effective for me in the Great Lakes. Pressure washing is the main reason that it needed to be reapplied after 2 seasons. It needed only touch ups last year.I feel that it is better than spending more than twice as much, for an ablative that also comes off with pressure washing at season end.

Not so effective

1

I applied Neptune last season as I wanted a harder paint than WM PCA Gold. However after just a few months it started fouling off quickly. At the end of the season I was having to wipe an 1/8th inch of slime off the bottom every week. And when hauled out, there were multiple barnacles and weed on the bottom. Maybe it works well in low fouling areas, but for the Chesapeake it was not an effective paint.

Easy to apply, not the hardest though.

Painted Boston Whaler uniformly with easy application and good coverage. One coat on bottom with second around the waterline. Prepped surface with On-Off, stiff bristle brush, and hose. After 2 weeks in the water, the paint on the side of the hull has been abraded from contact with one of the white vinyl dock bumpers. This is the first time i have seen this happen. I have used UnEpoxy, Fiberglass Bottomkote, and Micron CSC in the past. I guess these must be harder coatings. Will try something different next year.
