Actually the height of the nut is under .25 of an inch. The two nuts jammed together would be around your .446 inch..

Answer

I believe all jam nuts are thinner than the standard, why? I'm not sure but I suspect the thinner nut allows .some distortion of the threads which help with the locking effect. I put the jam nut on last, although I have met those who put it on first. Norman Cove. Man o War Cay Abaco, Bahamas

Answer

No, these nuts are a bit thinner and work well in tight spaces. They are 0.125" thick.

Question

Is this 5/8-11 Silicon Bronze Jam Nut the standard 3/8" in height? If not what is the height?

Asked on 11/03/2011 by B R

Top Answer

I can't verify the height of the 5/8-11 jam nuts, but I bought 1/4-20 jam nuts a couple of years ago which are 5/32 high.

Answer

I'm not sure the exact thickness, but it is much thinner than a normal hex nut. It is used in conjunction with a normal hex nut on your prop shaft. Two hex nuts would be to much and one is not enough. Expensive but was perfect for my needs. Hope this helps.
