Application conditions Temperature should be between 60F. and 80F. during application. Air humidity below 70%. Avoid varnishing in too much wind or sun. A rapid loss of solvents will occur under these conditions and will decrease the flowing ability. Add thinner up to the specified percentage to compensate for the faster release of solvents. Any existing finish must be intact, degreased and sanded.

Surface Preparation:
Fill the bare wood to a smooth surface with Epifanes Polyurethane Clear Gloss. Approx. 3 - 4 coats. These sealer coats provide maximum durability and U.V. protection (see leaflet on Polyurethane Clear Gloss for application instructions). A build up of gloss also produces a finish with more depth and clarity. After build up, degrease with Epifanes Spray Thinner For Paint & Varnish or denatured alcohol and sand coat with 320 or 400 grit wet or dry abrasive paper. Brush application with a good quality, clean, natural bristle brush will give good results. Try an Epifanes brush for the ultimate varnishing experience.

Remarks If recoated within 48 hours, sanding is not required.

If existing coats of varnish are intact, one or more coats may be applied on a well cleaned, degreased and lightly sanded surface. Alternatively, the last two coats of Epifanes Polyurethane Clear Satin Varnish may be replaced with two coats of Epifanes Rubbed Effect Interior Varnish. Allow 24 hours between coats and sand with 320 - 400 grit wet or dry abrasive paper. The one-component finish may be preferred if a more elastic topcoat is desired or required. The one-component finish also provides easier maintenance.
