Due to a mistake on my part in shipping information, they were shipped today so I haven't actualy seen them. I have used this type of ring pull other times and they usually require a circular hole the diameter of the recessed portion (half round) and then the flange covers over on the surface. The hole can usually be made with a speed (spade) bit. Years ago we used a brace and bit with a little elbow grease. You can also mortise the entire ring pull if you like to make the flange flush with the surface. That will then take two different size bits. Drill the larger one first and then the smaller one keeping the centers in line. Good Luck!

Answer

mortised, but if soft wood longer screws needed. need to round out the hole with a cone shaped rasp on a drill to fit the cup shaped bottom of the ring pull.

Answer

It requires a round mortise 1 1/4" diameter by 1/2" deep, such as would be cut by a 1 1/4" bit & brace or a spade drill.

Answer

It requires a little bit of work but what I did was drill a 1/8" pilot hole and then took a 2" forstner down 1/8". There is a hinge and for that I used a 5/8" forstner to drill down another 1/4" (I lined up the edge of the bit against the top edge of the 2" bore) for that allowance. The last step was to drill a 1 1/4" bore down 1/2" from the original surface of he wood (or 3/8" from the bottom of the 2" bore). It should seat perfectly and won't take a lot of time if you have the bits.

Question

What weight are the rings rated to handle?

We used this ring for a lightweight application on a small hatch door. It should probably not be used on a door larger than 1' x 2'.

Answer

So sorry; our use doesn't require a great deal of weight, only to keep canvas taught on a large boat.

Answer

Sorry, I don't know the official design rating, but my application is for tie-downs for a pool cover. We have a wooden deck surrounding the pool and they work well. Remember, they are brass, so if you have a heavy duty application you may want to use conventional steel cleats.
