TotalBoat ThickSet Clear Casting Epoxy is a deep pour resin system ideal for thick casting, embedding & molding projects. Water-clear, 2-part formula makes DIY projects easy—just measure, mix and pour! Simple 3 parts resin to 1 part hardener mix ratio creates a deep, glass-like finish on bars, counters and tables, highlighting the surface itself or the creative objects you've embedded, such as shells, bottle caps & photos.
ThickSet lets you pour deeper single layers than traditional tabletop epoxy. For large pours (river tables or slabs), pour single layers up to 1/2 inch deep. Pour small castings (using less than 16 oz. of epoxy) up to 1 inch deep. Long working time lets you experiment & have fun! Cured epoxy is BPA-free, safer for food contact.
Choose Kit size: 1.3 QT, 1.3 GAL, 4 GAL or 8 GAL.

Easy Instructions for TotalBoat ThickSet Epoxy
1 - MEASURE
Pour 3 parts resin and 1 part hardener by volume into a clean mixing cup (DO NOT mix more than 1 total gallon of material at a time).
NOTE: For convenience dispensing smaller amounts of ThickSet, try our new calibrated 3:1 Epoxy Pumps. No guessing, no mess, and a perfect cure every time!
2 - MIX
Stir for 2-3 minutes to mix thoroughly. Pour into a clean mixing cup and stir for another 2-3 minutes.
3 - POUR
Pour slowly, to minimize air bubbles. Use a spreader to help level out the layer. The maximum single-pour depth is 1" for large pours, and 2" for casting in small molds**.
Step pouring additional layers: Wait until the previous layer is cool, but still soft enough to indent with a fingernail, and pour the next layer of ThickSet directly on top.
IMPORTANT!
- **Environmental conditions are extremely important to the quality of the cure, and to achieving the best clarity and surface finish. Depending on the overall mass of epoxy being poured at a single time, the depth that it is poured, and the ambient temperature, excessive heat may build up from the reaction, causing potential yellowing, cracks, or other shrinkage. Helping to dissipate the heat may help promote the best results. For the epoxy to cure fully, the ambient temperature must be between 65°F and 80°F. When pouring for larger projects, such as slabs or tables, do not exceed a pour depth of 1/2 in to 1" to prevent yellowing or excessive heat from the cure.
- Multiple, step pours are recommended, rather than one thick coat, which will generate excessive heat, distorting the surface.
- Do not place items hotter than 125°F on the cured surface.
- Not designed for continuous UV exposure. If the item will be used outdoors, the cured surface must be coated with a UV-filtering varnish to prevent yellowing and fogging.
Should I Use TotalBoat ThickSet Epoxy or TotalBoat TableTop Epoxy?
Both of these epoxies give you beautiful results for crystal-clear coating, casting, embedding or encapsulating projects. However, TotalBoat TableTop Epoxy is more of a 'coating' epoxy, and TotalBoat ThickSet epoxy, is more of a 'casting' epoxy designed for thicker pours.
TotalBoat ThickSet Epoxy Advantages
- Requires fewer pours to achieve final thickness of 1/2" and more
- Reduces possibility of banding (ability to see individual layers)
- Gives you longer working time at room temperature
Designed for thick casting, ThickSet allows you to do deeper single-layer pours than you can do with TotalBoat TableTop Epoxy. For example, you can pour a single layer of TotalBoat ThickSet 1/2"-1" deep when pouring into large areas or molds, and up to 2" deep when pouring into small molds.
TotalBoat TableTop Epoxy Advantages
- Faster cure time for coating and shallow-depth embedding projects
- Simpler 1:1 mix ratio (ThickSet is 3:1)
The maximum single-layer depth for TotalBoat TableTop Epoxy is 1/8"-1/4".
For deeper pours, should I use TotalBoat ThickSet or ThickSet Fathom epoxy - what's the difference?
TotalBoat ThickSet and ThickSet Fathom epoxies are both crystal clear resin systems that can be poured deeper than traditional epoxy, and both are ideal for castings, river tables, and slab pours, but if you want to do really deep pours, use ThickSet Fathom because you can pour it in thicker single layers than ThickSet. The table below contains more information to help you decide which ThickSet formula is right for your project.ThickSet | ThickSet Fathom | |
Best Used For | Smaller scale castings and pours; ideal for castings using less than 16 fl. oz. per pour | Larger scale projects and castings using 1/2 to 1 gallon of mixed epoxy |
Advantages | Shorter demold time, shorter recoat time | Deepest pour depth per layer, longer working time, fewer pours, easier mix ratio |
Max Pour Depth Per Layer | 1" for smaller castings using less than 16 oz. of epoxy; 1/2" for river tables, slab pours, live edge tables | 3" for larger castings, and up to 2" deep for river tables, slab pours, and live edge tables |
Working Time | 45-60 minutes | 2-4 hours |
Demold Time | 12-24 hours | 48-72+ hours |
Full Cure Time | 5-7 days | 5-10 days |

I'm a big fan of the High Performance Epoxy but recently poured some small 1/32" deep letters in White Ash made with a CNC and even though I sealed before pouring, I had a heck of time with micro bubbles. I decided to try the Thickset because it was less viscous but was worried that it wouldn't set up in the 1mm wide by 1/32" deep engraved letters. It worked perfectly with the Black Diamond mica powders. Even with mixtures of only a few grams it set up in 36 hours with no micro bubbles. Great product. I know it says ThickSet but don't be afraid to pour it shallow.

First time buying from Total Boat. I called them and explained the project I was working on and this is what they recommended. I was filling cracks and knot holes in a cedar slab. Loved the pumps on the jugs and the product worked great. Will definitely be a returning customer.
